Need advice on a good MP3 Transmitter.
« on: March 14, 2004, 04:28:25 PM »

I've got an old 5GB Ipod and want to hook it up through my truck's stereo. I've bought, and returned, two transmitter type things already. Since I can't remember who made them, I'll just describe them. One of them plugs into the 5v adapter and a little usb thing plugs into that. Then a cord runs from the usb thing to the Ipod's headphone jack. Utter crap. Staticy like crazy. Then next one I tried plugged into the headphone jack and required batteries to transmit to 88.7 FM. Utter crap again. 90% static, barely any sound. I know it's not the stereo, as it works fine. I've fiddled with the settings and tried all possible combinations. Has anyone had any success with these type of devices. The one Apple sells seems only to work for the newer Ipods and not my old one. I don't care who makes it, as long as the quality is good and not all staticy. Thanks a bunch!

I care!  ...but I don't have much input on this one except; have you asked the vendor who sold it to you?  Another option is to find out what kind you need from the vendor (if he doesn't have it) and check on ebay.com?

I wish I could provide more...

My friend lee got the type that hooks into the headphone jack and transmits on the 88.x wavelengths. It actually does four different frequencies, so if one's not working, he can cycle through the other ones to fix it. I've used it in my car- no problems or complaints... So basically, I gots nothing.

Two reasons. One, I don't have money to get a cheapie laptop and two, I wouldn't know how anyways. It's ok. I'll probably get newer Ipod pretty soon on account me constantly dropping mine at the gym. The newer models have a special adapter from Apple.

VVVVV No, I don't have a tape deck. Just a slot load cd player. Tape decks are too 'legacy' for my tastes.

got a tape player in your automobile?  get oner of those adapters for your CD player to car stereo, and plug it into the i-pod headphone jack.
