Like the subject says. Please post reasons, and let me know if I forgot any important OSs.

My preferred operating system is Slackware Linux.

Just as a tip, you'd probably be better off lumping Linux all together in a poll like that.

Around here you'll manage to offend people more by omitting their favourite Linux distro than anything else.

My appologies, but pehaps I should specify that I only included OSs that I have used.

And I'm always open to trying new OSs, I'll try any that anybody mentioned eventually.

I don't care if it's in your poll or not...OS\2 Warp is the only OS for me.  :x

I'm really liking Ubuntu!  Very solid, user friendly and fast.  I also liked Kubutu but it's a little newer and has a few KDE bugs that needs ironing out.  I will probobly try the next version.

I crave OS X. The sooner I'm out of this stupid PC world and into my overpriced fantasy realm, the better.

I'm liking Debian, because of the package selector, but I'm getting confused as all heck.

Where are the files installed?

To run something, I just use the command line and type the file name, like firefox, but where does the file go? Where should I install everything?

I am thinking, to avoid confusion, to just bastardize everything and make a generic C:\ Organization structure. I'm a windows junky through and through. Any suggestions?

Note: I didn't want to make this a seperate topic, because it seems like there would only be a few posts anyway.

Go Threadjacking!

Undecided.

:?: Question: Which Linux OS works best with a Java compiler?
