Stupid ipod question
« on: November 03, 2006, 06:06:03 PM »

What's up with this stupid ipod?  I have a question about it.

The battery is supposed to charge when you hook it up to the computer right?  My battery is dead and I keep hooking it up and nothing happens.

It could be that you're dealing with a shitty low-power USB port. Throw that sucker in a different USB port and see if it makes a difference.

Get an AC charger. It takes like 6 hours to charge up. You'd have to leave your PC on overnight, or all day.

Where does the AC charger plug in?  Same place?

I do leave my PC on overnight.  How long does it last anyway?

I think it heard me, cause now it is charging.

Thanks.

Mine usually doesn't charge on the comp if the battery is all the way dead. Same with my cell phone.

The wife just got back from the genius bar and her harddrive in her pod is more than likely muerta.  She can trade it in for a 10% discount on a new one which will cost us about $250 after taxes.  She could also drop $100 and follow intarweb instructions and put a new HD in.  Has anyone done the latter?  If so is it easy enough for the unwashed like us to do?

Are those instructions straight from Mac? If not, I don't think mac would approve of you doing that. They get pickey with their stuff, voiding warranties ETC. But unless the instructions are from mac, I wouldn't risk damaging the iPod more :\ that's just me though

Eh, it looks easy enough.

I would probably take the trade-in, but that's just because I'm lazy.

She bought a new one from Costco, so no rebate but we get the Executive Club member kickback.  So I guess if we come across a hard drive we can try and then Ian will have one.

Detta: for future reference, sometimes the iPods react towards the chargers the same way cell phones do; if the charger is loose and wiggly (for lack of a better word) you may have to position it just-so for it to charge correctly. My cell phone is like that.

Oh yeah, I figured it out.  You have to click the "register later" button when that screen comes on your computer.  Then it starts charging.
