Enlighten me please
« on: November 09, 2007, 05:21:59 AM »

I need a quick method to replace 300 normal.dot template files with a new one. Does anyone of you know what is the quickest way to accomplish this ?

Do you have access to push it over the network? or do you need to execute something on each machine to do it?

If the normal.dot that you want to put on their machines is the default one, you can just tell the users to delete the existing one.  Windows will build a new one if it doesn't find one.

If you're looking to replace normal.dot with something specific... answer the above question.

luckily no one got infected. And asking the users is a no go, they don't have sufficient rights to do so. It's a Citrix environment. And they're template is in their profile. I want to replace it quick and dirty.

A quick Google search brought this up http://search.techrepublic.com.com/search/Citrix+Systems+Inc..html?t=9&s=0&o=0
Seems like there might be helpful information there.

I'm not that familiar with Citrix but if you have roaming profiles aren't all of their templates stored on your server?

Not if the profiles are redirected by group policy from some other back-end server.  That's how we normally do things.

Wasn't aware of that, thanks for the info.  My experience with Citrix is pretty limited.

Works with Windows terminal servers too, that's how we handle it.  We normally redirect user desktops from a SAN-connected backend server too.  That way there's nothing really on the front-end servers except applications.  So if a front-end server ever gets hosed we can replace the whole b0xx0r and slap a recent ghost image on it with no data loss, no user profile loss, no desktop loss.

And people come on here and claim we don't help them.

Course if they want real help they should be checking out hackernetwork.com  ....

Demo and Chris
can still be found helping people out if you look hard enough.

Of course you would have to know who Chris was over there.

Thanks for the little walk down memory lane Socrates.  It's amazing what is still cached on the intraweb thingy.

That site certainly had some moments didn't it.

I still fondly remember when we were working on "The Tool".
