yes there is ok maybe it consists of me my cat and 3 guys in japan but it exists lol. joking aside Cyberpunk escaped from being a literary genre when People started calling themselves cyberpunks. The first people to identify themselves as cyberpunks were adolescent computer hackers who related to the street-hardened characters and the worlds created in the books of William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, John Shirley, and others. Its diversified to basically mean people who like those types of books/films, tinkering with computers and listening to sought of goth-based music like field for the nephillim. Basically an elitest sect of nerds.

I read Burning Chrome when it was printed in Omni magazine, and thought, hey, cool story. But it's been pretty much more of the same after that, I think. I couldn't even finish Mona Lisa Overdrive.

Would you consider Philip K. Dick a proto-cyberpunk?

He's maybe abit too close to general sci-fi to be considered Cyberpunk but he's still awesome A scanner darkly is one of my favourites although still not seen the Keanu reeves movie made must get onto that.

I've seen Cyberpunk twice.  Once in San Jose at Trial Pub and once at FlameGirl's house (perhaps former house now, I think she might have moved) for Cyberpunk's and Feffer's reception.
