TEch question about networking and backup
« on: September 15, 2010, 09:41:56 PM »

Hi there fellow Geeks, my question is as follows.

Our Office has a simple network setup with 4 machines.
There is no server only a workgroup setup with hubs to share the connections.

I use a usb drive on my machine to write the backup to from the other
machines, using a program called Goodsync. It works ok but i wonder
if i would be better off to connect the drive directly
to the network via an adaptor (Lan to Usb port if it exists?)
maybe would this free up my pc as lately it has been very bogged down
with "csrss.exe" at times using up to 50% of the available ram.................

Am i correct in asuming that if i can change the way that the usb drive
is connected will it free up my pc??

My pc is Vista Home with 4 gig ram, all the other pcs in the workgroup are
xp with latest updates installed.

Or maybe should i build up a server from an old pc??

then i could store the majority of the file on there instead
of my pc, and write the backup files through it instead
of mine??

The reason why your computer is so dang slow is exactly because of that csrss.exe. It's a well known trojan! What you need to do in order to speed up your computer again is to first turn off DEP and reboot the system.

After it comes back up, do a regedit search for "csrss.exe" and delete any entry that you find. It's probably wormed its way well into your registry so there may be more than one entry for it. Delete them all. After you've done that, do a search on your hard drive fir "csrss.exe" and delete that file. After all that reboot, and you'll be golden!

I wonder if there are any Jehovah's Witnesses that are also door-to-door encyclopedia salesmen?  I would think it would be very efficient multitasking.

I've never had a Jehovah's Witness knock on my door and claim to be a burglar.

The mere fact you ask that question tells me you haven't bothered to read beyond this thread, hell even been able to decipher what the tone of this thread has been speaking, and that just wont get you anywhere here As such, you are much better off seeking help from some place that doesn't mind one night stands.

Damn, there I go drunk post rambling, trying to help but seeing it fall on deaf ears. Second time I have done that this morning, but you wouldn't care would you? Damn!!! more drunk posting!!!

I quit now!
