I know, I know. All of my previous screen shots used to just be one soild color since I had no icons on the desktop.

I'm thinking around a year and a half ago I went to having icons again. I just got too lazy, I suppose.

I installed Vista to learn about it too. So far I haven't had many issues. I suspect that's mainly cause this is a pretty beefy machine.

I had this one on my machine at work, with the taskbar pulled down out of sight. They actually got mad when they couldn't figure out how to "log in" and made me take it off. Said I needed to quit "playing tricks".

Anyway, that was my desktop on one of my workstations back when a single monitor was enough. Now with dual monitors on all my stations, any graphic whatsoever is just too distracting, so I set the background to solid black.

That's what I like to see. A nice, clean desktop. My boss's desktop is just covered with shortcuts and documents. I have no idea how he can find anything in that mess.

It's Fluxbox (http://fluxbox.org); while there is a way to make desktop shortcuts in Fluxbox, I don't typically bother.  The menu is so flexible and easy to customize that I never have any need for anything else.

I love Slax.  It's my favourite live-CD based distro out there.

Myself, I use Slackware.  Mostly because it works.  Here's what the laptop I'm using right now looks like at the moment:

My aforementioned ancient laptop, a Toshiba Satellite that's almost 5 years old now.  It's running Ubuntu 9.04 with Openbox (http://icculus.org/openbox/index.php/Main_Page) as the window manager, with which I've been experimenting lately.

Sure thing.  Help yourself to anything in my wallpaper directory (http://www.guildhaven.org/wallpaper).  I don't have much in it at the moment (I cleaned it out recently when I switched hosts a few months ago), but the one you're looking for I just uploaded.  It's called "isabel4.jpg".

Indeed! I recently switched from Firefox due to it taking about a minute to load each time.

It's definitely one of my favorites as well.  But the Linux version has been a bit brain damaged lately, so I've been using this (http://getswiftfox.com/) for the past few months or so.

Optimized version of Firefox doesn't sound bad...as I've never really been a fan of Mozilla Firefox. I've been using IE until I got Opera, actually.
I sent my laptop to Acer to have them fix something a while ago and had to use some other computer meanwhile. That one had only Safari installed. Which was a hell.  :roll:

I don't know what it is with me and browsers. Years ago, I used Netscape, until it got boggy. I switched to IE, which worked great for a while, then got boggy. So I switched to Firefox, which worked great for a while, then got boggy. So I switched to IE, which worked great for a while, then got boggy. So I switched to Opera, which worked great for a while, then got boggy.

So I switched back to Firefox, which has been working great.

Chrome?  That's what I use for my non-work portal apps at work.  At home I was using FF for the Mac.  I guess Chrome has a version now so I'll check it out.

That's "Conky (http://conky.sourceforge.net/)", about which I just commented.  It's retardedly configurable.  To the point where you practically never find any two exactly alike.  Do a Google Image Search for "conky screenshots" some time and you'll see just what some people have done with theirs.  Conky config file swapping is a fairly popular activity among power users.
