I disagree with him, not on everything, but on some things. And most of my disagreements are tiny, nick-picky things that don't really weigh on capitalism itself, but still alter the image he is trying to create.

For instance, he says that "their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses", making the suggestion that some force outside of the religion itself did it. When infact, it was Christianity and Christianity alone that created its own implosion into stupidity. The religion set itself up... from the very beginning.

Further more, w.t.f. does any of the above have to do with capitalism and it's collapse? Faith does not a capitalist make.

Also, and my major shtick... EDITED: Because I can't express myself well, tipsy: The U.S. never really was a true Democracy in the first place. It is and always was more like a Republic. If I am to understand my social sciences classes correctly, and as long as I'm remembering the right stuff, *ahem* - I thought Marxism was Democracy? Eh... Marxism /= Communism anyway, I'm sure about that.
(Goes back to drinking.)

I'll have to get back to y'all on this. It's dinnertime, then 24time, then bedtime. But this is a subject close to my heart.

Good perspective and many of his observations are spot on.  The US is and has always been a Plutocracy.  The 'Free Market' never has been more than a mislabel in this country.  His denigration of the populace as being mind controlled by the idiot box is also spot on.

I agree entirely. I've always make it a point never to let TV control my life. I don't even know why I own one...now if you'll excuse me my Warcraft raid starts in 15 minutes and I don't want to be late or I'll lose my place in the SK line.

I find it a bit amusing that the same people who will bemoan the "decline of capitalism" and the free market in this country will bitch and moan the loudest about illegal immigration. A guy comes over the border to make more money than he can at home, and does the same job as you but charges less... that is the free market at work, people.

I think the complaint is that people not here legally are therefore exempt from minimum wage laws which give them an unfair advantage in the workforce as they're willing to take jobs for what will be a much lesser cost to the employer. This, I suppose, would be considered a total free market, but it's not 'American' free market.

GAH, it's hard for me to explain, but I think I'm making my point, sort of. I've been having a hard time expressing myself properly the past few months. Like my brain is getting 'seek errors' when looking up the words I need and used to know.

Failing memory and nerves on the right side of my body all numb...This kind of bullshit is really starting to piss me off.  :x

MY issue with illegals (not Immigration or immigrants; which are legal and welcomed) is just that. Just come here legally. WHAT THE FUCK is so ambiguous about that that people can't wrap their heads around it?

Besides, this dude is Russian; in Russia, and this observation is one from outside the US. He could probably not care less about our immigration issue. My point ( by posting it ) is that if it is this clear to the outside world what is going on here; why can't "We the People" get our heads out of our asses and see it.

Obeying "the law" for its own sake is about the most braindead and UNAMERICAN position one can take on just about anything. Don't you live in Georgia? I'm pretty sure BJs are covered under your sodomy laws, hopefully you are not participating. The US was founded upon disobedience of unjust laws. Not that immigration laws are just or unjust (although they clearly do interfere with free markets), but "it's the law" is not a good reason to do anything.

Particularly when, in the case of the vast majority of "illegals" in the US, the only laws they're guilty of breaking is the rather stupid and in some cases nearly-impossible-to-comply-with immigration laws.

The way to fix our illegal immigrant problems with legislation is to repeal the screwed up Federal imigration quota system.

Labor mobility is not just key to economic growth but also eliminates most of the abuses of workers, in that if workers are free to move the employers have an incentive to treat them fairly.  If the quotas were repealed, wages in North America would equalize as eventually the lower paying jobs in Mexico would pay the same as the lower paying jobs in the US as the companies south of the US would need to pay more to keep their workers.  Most of the immigrants I knew were only here to make enough money to send back home to their impoverished families and then move back after they've done so.  Protectionism never works whether it's tariffs or quotas or whether it's goods or people.
