Just want to see what you guys think, you may or may not know that the recent general election resulted in the Conservative party being in power. For the benefit of the americans on here this is a bit like the republicans (High taxes, keeping the rich rich and the poor poor, slight racist undertones ect.). The first thing this new government did was raise the vat rate (which is sales tax) to 20% from 17.5%. As a buisness owner this will cripple my finances and discourage people from parting with their cash, the flip side is that my country is in a lot of debt and their saying its nessisery for a brighter future.
I would really like your oppinions on this as I'm torn for my next vote.
Somthing else you might find amusing, I'm doing some reasearch on just how currupt my local council is. Already my findings are beyond belief but I will post full details when im done.

Holy shit. And I thought Washington States 9.8% sales tax was a rod in the corn hole.

BAD...
I would just leave that as my reply as it sums it up but it makes a pretty pathetic response so I'll just have to quote Karl Marx: 'The rich will do anything for the poor but get off their backs.' And the Conservatives are certainly the summary of the rich. I hate that the government can't even be bothered governing which is what a Tory (conservative) government means. I also have to say I feel bad for all those people who vote Liberal Democrat in hopes of keeping out Tory or even Trident, that didn't work out too well... I can't say anymore thinking about it too much makes me want to cry.

VAT is Value Added Tax which is similar to a sales tax but not quite. As far as what I think, it's a coalition government not truly a conservative win. As a source for GB political commentary I recommend The Economist (http://www.economist.com/world/britain/)

Fuck the rich. There won't be world peace until everybody is wearing one of those Kim Dong Ill suits.
-
There will never be world peace. That is unhuman.
-
Do we really want world peace, though? It's quite an effective population control measure. The only warfare worth abolishing is class.

Bad new policy plans of the con-demns government indicated a return to the realms of Margaret Thatcher. As a student im particularly aware of their policy plans for students which include removing a cap on tuition fees, which will mean only rich people can go to good univesities and poor people are left with whats left over. They have also released plans to place variable interest rates on student loans, this from a coalition government who in part (Liberal Democrats) promised abolition within ten years. I am disgusted by the new governments policy.

Myself and the other Lib Dem voters I know didn't vote for them to keep Tories out, we voted for them because of there policies. I can understand why they backed the conservatives as they had the majority, but I did think for a second it would make the decision making a little bit tougher and balance out opinion a bit more. However the Lib Dems have betrayed us largely on the most basic and important of issues, Mainly the university fee's and also NHS issues.
