I don't know what the right words are for what it is, curated content split into themed channels occurring on a set schedule where you can't skip forward or back.  So - just like watching TV, only free, and the shows are made of internet content.

But yes, it's the opposite of WebTV.

I feel like this does a good job of making it seem like you're still watching TV - but it's internet content so no commercials. For some strange reason, I really like the concept of channels and shows, even if it is, ultimately, internet content.  Basically just free curation, I suppose. I'm enjoying the Guns & Explosions Channel and the Nerd Culture Channel

They totally got $21 outta me.  The goat was only $20 but I couldn't resist giving mine a grill for $1.  I love that you can pimp them out.

Not only is this video for a great cause but it seriously has some of the cutest flippin goats I’ve ever seen! Look for the baby white one:

it may be staged, but the whole "well hello there young man, how are you?" followed by a swift chop to the nuts is always a winner in my book.  Plus I hate Comcast right now for jerking me around.

I didn’t know they were building this, this is unbelievable.  It’s the height of two Empire State buildings, here’s the tour footage: http://www.gloob.tv/life/world_s_tallest_building?article=1976

I don't like Mitt Romney for a lot of reasons, and was disgusted by this clip: http://gloob.tv/news/romney_confronted_medical_pot?article=1976 of him explaining to a wheelchair-bound lifelong muscular dystrophy sufferer that he would indeed arrest him for his "crime" (I live in California, where taking medicine that a doctor recommends isn't a crime).

What’s your favourite car insurance gimmick?  The talking gecko?  The gruff cowboy?  What makes you feel the most automotive safety?

I like the new one from Mercury (www.mercurytheory.com).  If you haven’t seen it they are making the claim that the owners of Mercury are from Mercury and they’ve got all the corroborative evidence including a 10X magnification of burnt toast (check out the slides) that proves everything.  Makes me chuckle.

Heh.  Uh, thanks?  Hey, if anyone actually has the superfan package, do you know how they do the audio for the 8 games on 1 screen channel?  Is it silent, or a mix, or what?

Hey does anyone have the superfan package from Directv?  Now that I have my 67” DLP TV set up with HDTV I’m thinking watching games in HD should be happening.  Saw this site: www.heybuttercup.com wanted to know what “up to 9 games in HD every Sunday” means realistically.

Now why on earth is everyone picking on a.r.f.?  Personally I think he/she is living up to his/her name to the utmost.

:)  I'll take that as a compliment.  Esp. since for once on a board I am not assumed to be male, which I am not.

Anarchy / Abortretryfail's comedy routine of the day
« on: May 19, 2006, 09:07:04 PM »
none of the routines I posted were 30 years old.  And, you are right, because I am using Napster I am limited to things that have been released on an album, and therefore everything's at least a little bit old.  My idea was to pay tribute to the giants and classics before moving on.  I'm sure everyone's heard of this lady too because of her comedy central play, but I have been a fan for a long time:

Listen to Hollywood Standards by Maria Bamford : http://www.napster.com/player/tracks/15209170

Look, once again:  *I'm* not registered with Napster.  What I'm taking advantage of is their new NapsterLinks advertising scheme where you can turn anything in their library into a link which can be listened to up to five times.   To me this means: free web-based audio to be taken advantage of as much as possible before they move on to their next crazy scheme.

And the MAIN reason I object to your method of posting is that it is not possible for everyone to follow such links. Many of us actually work for a living and check in here during, say... uh... lunch breaks. Yeah, that's it -- lunch breaks. I, for one, have no speakers. Also, if I leave a bunch of napster links in the logs, people will look at me funny, seeing as how I work for the industry that originally sued napster into submission.

So FUCK YOU, PAT!

Perhaps you should think about purchasing some headphones.

Look, seriously, someone tell me of another way to direct link to live listenable comedy (though that alone seems to be what you are objecting to, that it's audio rather than text), for free, with a decent library, and I'll do it.

Until then, bite me, or stop responding:  This is currently my favourite George Carlin routine, but it's a hard choice, the man's got a 45+ year career: Listen to Advertising Lullabye by George Carlin : http://www.napster.com/player/tracks/13782351

Anarchy / A shocking question

This one is just too good to pass up.  I used to edit sound for films, and somehow never thought to do this:  http://www.shocku.com/videos/index.php?v=949&r=ins&o=nouv&beg=

I went and looked at a bunch of sets. I was surprised at how little difference there really is in image quality between the formats, it seems to have more to do with brand.  But I still prefer DLP for the no-burn in reason.  Here's my first choice so far: http://www.dlp.com/home_entertainment/home_entertainment_product_detail.asp?id=856

Hey, I take offense.  Just because you are too sissy to quick reg. with napster doesn't mean my post sucks.  I have excellent taste in comedy and will provide plenty of examples.  I just don't know of any other way to provide them without using NapsterLinks.  I could post the text of the routine here - but seeing how badly you butchered Mitch Hedberg I'm not about to.

Currently this gentleman is my favourite male comedian: Listen to American Dream by Eddie Izzard : http://www.napster.com/player/tracks/15219604

Anarchy / A shocking question
« on: May 16, 2006, 05:14:44 PM »
Heh.  I would rather be mauled by a lion.  Because it just sounds more sissy "how did you die?"  "Bees."

I would also rather just watch the videos.  I like that shocku.com site because it has videos I have never seen.  I guess they have to get a lot of them because it's supposed to be a real magazine on the newsstands so I suppose they need a lot of material.  I also like that they have it sorted so I don't have to watch gross stuff if I don't want to.

22
Thanks for this, I wan't aware of it.  I went to a zillion stores last weekend and squinted at various TV sets.  Saw no rainbow effect.  I guess some people see it and some don't?  I am hoping I will be able to somehow audition a set in my space before buying it.

The main reason I'm considering DLP is that my current set has things burned into it from gaming.  I am not responsible about this, and I don't want to ruin my brand new exciting set the first time I pass out in front of the TV with my game paused.  As far as I'm aware DLP is the only option that prevents burn-in, true?

Just finished playing the demo for this game, so sweet, you’re a cop looking for a serial killer in a grisly realistic env. - lots of bludgeoning transients with objects not primarily designated as weapons (a.k.a "die at the hand of my rustily nailed 2x4, hobo junkies!").  It’s like a cross between Resident Evil and Manhunt. I'm so glad this is out on PC since I don't have a 360.  Anyone played the full game?  How is it?  Demo is here:  http://www.condemnedgame.com/

So I’m a huge comedy fan and I thought I’d start this thread to share some of my favourite routines with y’all.  I doubt I’ll get to it every day, but I’ll try to get to it at least a few times a week.  Here’s the first installment:

Listen to Marketing & Advertising by Bill Hicks : http://www.napster.com/player/tracks/12409846

(to listen to it you have to do a quick register w/ Napster, just need an e-mail address)
