Time for a light derail: What do you consider to be 'rich?' 50k a year? 100k? Anybody who makes more than you?

Many people in SoCal are house-rich and cash-poor. I know people who consider a $100K family income barely scraping.

I wouldn't measure rich in terms of income, but in terms of, to quote Doomy, how much money you have "lying around". If you have money lying around, you're lucky. If you have a lot of money lying around, you're rich. If your income is consumed by mortgage, food, drink, gas, clothes, tuition -- in other words, life -- then you are not rich no matter what your income is.

Then I should be dirt-poor by that example. I usually run out of funds a day before my next paycheck.

I guess I am rich. I like to keep money just laying around in little hiding places.

...banks scare me

Nope.  He said if your income is consumed by life, you're rich in life.  I agree.

Exactly! Just because you're poor doesn't mean you're unhappy.

I'm all for spending whatever you have while you're still able bodied enough to enjoy it.

Barely on topic but I just saw it today and it seems to be an ample comparison for wealth between societies (or withing societies):

It's ofcourse from liberal sources (but seemingly legit facts) but I enjoyed the medium it delivered in as well.
