Just wondering
« on: June 13, 2006, 05:45:39 AM »

Any fans of Opera out there, Firefox will always be the best, but I think Opera has one up on it with speed and a nice GUI. Is this just my imagination or what, but has the latest release  of firefox looks to be geting slower?  I think Opera  may have better CSS support, too becuase it renders pages that don't work correctly in firefox, but then again that could be the fault of bad code. But as far as conforming to W3c standards Safari may be in the lead.

Sentence, I had a great time on our date the other night, but I just don't think it's going to work out between us.

Funny you bring that up, I seem to recall people complaining about firefox on these boards not long ago.

OK, it's not really funny but you know what I mean.

Yeah, I'm getting frustrated with FF.  I'd try out Opera if I weren't so lazy.

The irony is that microsoft used to be a huge advocate of CSS and w3c standards, but now IE is the browser with the worst support, does anyone want to sepculate why the sudden change?

It's not that sudden. MS has been writing up their own "standard" for many years. They invented cross browser conflicts!

Ditto.

Also, any web developer/designer worth their salt codes for standards, not IE.

Opera 8 for me.

I have been using Opera for about two years now, and I can't tell you how many pop ups and dirt bag code this browser has saved me from.

You really have to watch out for some of those porno sites... they'll install so much shit on your computer, you wouldn't even believe!

I primarily use IE because that's the only one we're allowed to have at work and they won't let me DL anything else.

Unless you are running a business, and a majority of the people accessing the site use IE.

I would imagine, anyway, that they at least make sure it works on the most popular browser of the people that use their site.

No, you don't code for IE, or Firefox, or Safari or Opera, or any other browser. You code for standards. You make sure it's functional on popular browsers. Most "bugs" aren't "Firefox bugs" or "Safari bugs." They're IE's assbackward problems. I've seen more *html hacks in CSS than I should -- and we don't build complicated sites.

That's right. You code based on standards, then you test with various browsers and you curse and swear at MS when IE dicks around because it doesn't quite agree with a certain standard you used. Then you figure out a different way to code the problematic part while still respecting the standards until your broswer testing is sucessful. Worse case scenario is that you have to change your design because of IE, but you still and alwas code by the standards.

I have noticed firefox getting somewhat slower.
When I used .4 and .5, it opened as fast as ie, but when .9 came out, it started getting slow, now it takes almost 4 seconds to load with 1.5.
Same thing on all my computers!
I think mozilla hasn't deleted a lot of unnecessary code from firefox 1.5, just doubled up code might be the problem.

20 bucks will cure that.

Or less for that matter.

Yeah but it would be too much work to actually go to a retail establishment and buy one.  Plus from work I can't do any online shopping because I'm blocked from those sites too.
