Why do people still pay with a check for items less than $10 at the store? I was at Target last night and this lady held up the whole line writing a check out for a little under $10. I suppose I can understand not wanting an ATM\Debit card, however did you really need to wait until after everything was scanned before even getting your checkbook out?

If you're going to pay by check, get your checkbook out as soon as the cashier starts scanning items (if you do this while waiting in line, then it is even better) and fill out the parts about who it is for, the date, and whatever notes you want to ride. Example: "Hmmm...I'm next in line and I'm paying by check, better get out the book and start making it out." To: Target, Date: August 14th, 2008 Note: Anal Douche. Not only will doing this get you out faster, it stops you from looking like an inconsiderate cretin.

Also, dear Mr\Mrs\Ms Cashier person, small talk is all nice and good but if you're still chatting it up with the customer five minutes after the items have been bagged up and paid for, then you're officially wasting time. Knock it off.

Post whatever minor things that piss you off ITT.

The only time I ever pay for things with checks is when I'm broke and I know the check won't go through until after payday. So that's probably why.

Indeed. You never know for sure if that few extra minutes that you're holding up the line might keep it from getting to the bank that day.

Always play it safe and wait till everything is bagged up before you start.

Well, seeing as how this has turned into a thread about writing checks, I'd like to puff my chest out and sonorously intone that I stopped carrying a checkbook the moment the first debit card found a home in my smooth eelskin wallet. That's one bit of progress I wholeheartedly endorse, and harbor narry a whisp of nostalgia for the good old checkwriting days. What an arcane, barbaric aspect of commerce.

Then I pay for things I need with feathers, eggs, hand-made clothing, and vodka.

I heard on the radio today that the Supreme Court ruled that health care practitioners cannot deny care to somebody based upon sexual orientation just because it conflicts with the religious beliefs of the care provider. I guess a lot of Christian doctors and nurses didn't want to treat gay people and that got me thinking about something.

You are a doctor\nurse. It is your job to bring relief to the afflicted, cure diseases and comfort the stricken. Why is that so hard to do? "Ah, but Xolik, I'm a Christian and being a damn dirty queer is a sin so you're supposed to suffer with illness as punishment for your dirty, dirty sins." No. That's not how it works. If you're going to tout how great of a Christian you are and how Christlike you are striving to be, then you better get yourself down to the AIDS hospice and start with the caregiving. Jesus healed people by the droves. He didn't exactly ask first about what they did to get sick, either. Leper? Schizo? (pretty sure that's what 'demon possession' was back in those days) Bleeding non-stop for 12 years? Cured. No questions, just compassion and mercy. You know, things doctors are SUPPOSED TO HAVE.

It pisses me off to the nth degree when I read about any healer turning people away for 'religious reasons.' I have a hard time wrapping my mind around that kind of hypocrisy. If you feel you've been called by Christ to tend to the masses, then you better tend to ALL of the masses, just as He did. What's wrong with these people? Can't they see by acting they way are are now, that they're doing the very opposite of what their own God was doing when He walked the Earth? GAH!

My mother is a nurse for a nominally catholic-based hospital, and certain employees clock out of the hospital and clock in with the state for certain procedures.

I've heard of some cases where a patient will actually be hostile towards a nurse or such because of religious reasons, and at that point the patient will actually be transfered to a different doctor or nurse.
