Political Opinions / Re: GM and Dealers
« on: June 18, 2009, 12:05:08 PM »
I still don't get it though. Even if this is true, why would GM care if two dealers try and take each other's business? Who cares which dealer puts in the production orders, it's still the same amount of cars sold? It would make more sense if the dealers themselves were looking for a way out so that they could try and sell decent cars from a different manufacturer, but that's not the case here.

Strange.

I picked up* "Grateful" by Carpark North, a Danish rock/electronics band that probably no one has heard of. I have their other CDs too, it's really quite good.

* when I write "picked up" I obviously mean "shamelessly STOLE it from the internet for free, wanker that I am" (which, incidently, is still legal here)

You girls brag and brag. All words and no pictures. What's up with that?

I live in the Kingdom of Taxes, so I share your pain. If I think too much about how wrong it all is and how we all have to bend over,  I might as well jump from the tallest building. Luckily there aren't any  :-D

That's just it, the UK version doesn't make me laugh, it makes me uncomfortable. I feel sorry for the fictional characters and can relate to them. Comedy is not supposted to be about that... comedy is supposed to make your laugh.

I second that! In my eyes, Dwight is not only the greatest character but he's also played by the best actor of the show. Not that the others are doing bad at all, clearly they enjoy what they do.

How about the time Dwight set the building on fire because no one seemed to pay any attention to his fire drills?

I know, I thought that was required here. I was even asked to remove that full body nude picture of myself. It's the 60s now, we should be free from all these taboos huh?  :w:

I do try Linux from time to time... I've even ditched Windows for a few months and went Linux completely (Fedora back then I think). But as much as I hate Windows wasting my time/patience, I will NOT accept a Linux alternative where I must turn to the terminal and type in silly commands for anything but the most idiot-proof tasks. And I know we still have to. It's the 21st century and that's just sad. So a move to the Mac seems 100x more likely.

New phone, I was just goofing around with the camera and this came out. My old phone* only had a 0.3 MP camera, at most you could expect to see a different garble of rainbow pixels that resembled a known form somewhat. Imagine my surpise today with a more decent model. Enjoy  :-D

* actually my real previous phone ended up going round and round in the washing machine... this was my previous old phone. They should make them waterproof huh? Least you can expect. No warning either. Bastards.

Actually that was just my typo: NOW instead of NOT :)

Hehe, I suppose it is a little bit more complicated than that  :-D
Governments are like a black hole for money, that's probably universal. I'm surprised in America there's politicians that actually promise to reduce taxes. Never in my entire life have I ever had anyone announcing that here... they just bullshit you around and when they get elected they have the nerve to quietly raise taxes ever so slightly. Again and again. Might as well not vote. Assholes.

See what you made me do? Instead of being pissed over your $70 I am not pissed off over everything :)

Don't you worry bananaskittles, The Office has been renewed for another year :)
The current season has of course ended, as it turned out the last episode was aired on my birthday!

You know what, I'll just catch up on the episodes I've missed and hope I was wrong and you were both right! I want to laugh damnit!!

I wish I was in some 28% tax bracket... I'm in the 42% tax bracket. And on top of that, I pay layers upon layers upon layers of extra taxes. So stop complaining about some trivial $70  :-D

Well, I used to... the first 3, maybe even 4 seasons where just hilarious. I fell in love with the show as soon as they started making their own episodes (instead of UK copies). But unfortunately I really think the series has gone stale in the current season. Weak story lines and hell, I am just going to say it... it's just not funny anymore. It's like the writers haven't got a clue anymore, everything's been done. Sometimes you need to know when it's time to call it quits and these guys missed all the signals.

I've never cared for the UK series though, this is one of the very few exceptions where a US remake is better than the UK original. But they did know when to quit...

Nice one Semiotica, I'm also much in favour of picking your own working hours. Unfortunately I don't see that happening if your work involves any kind of interaction with clients... you can't just change the world that easily and people expect to be able to reach you between certain hours.

I've had a bad period where I suffered from some kind of insomnia, the contradictary one: I felt tired pretty much all the time, yet when I took my time to sleep, it wouldn't come or it would be extremely light. Can't explain it, it's gone now and I don't understand that either. I can't recall any major changes I've made. Or actually, changed too many parameters at once and back again, I can't know which one or ones did the trick. Or even if it was just a coincidence.

Nowadays I get up early (5.30) and meditate of sorts for about 20 minutes. Laugh all you want, it seems to work for me. It's basically more like a bit of timed/conscious day dreaming. It really helps to start the day fresh, calm & focussed for me and that's why I take the time and keep doing it most days. The downside to starting work relatively early is that you ought to get to bed early as well (22.00) and that I don't like: evenings/early nights are for leisure time! Practically I get by with 6 1/2 - 7 hours of sleep, although I do sometimes take a power nap early in the evening... that could be 'old' age though :D

At work my peak hours seem to be early mornings, I try to get the tough stuff done before lunch because I dip off slightly in the afternoon.

I've also noticed that, despite what you might expect (or again for me anyway), caffeine is not helpful at all. It merely makes the peaks slightly higher and the lows a LOT lower. If you drink a lot of coffee it may be difficult at first, but I found my overall focus to be quite good and consistent without any caffeine at all. God I sound like a health guru now!! To make amends for it, I am very lazy with sports. I prefer to prevent getting fat over working hard to get it off again, that's really my only motivation to watch what I stuff in my body :)

The key basically is... take care of your body. You can only ignore it for so long before your crash and burn or at least take on a zombie-like appearance.

I'm a web developer myself and I've always liked the idea of crossing over to the desktop of sorts. I am personally more interested in a 'real' OS that can seamlessly blend together C-based software, Java-based and JS-based web applications. You know, like Google is trying to do, a Gmail-application that you can use like any other application (and the end user has no idea of the difference) except it is really Chrome in disguise, that on a much wider scale. An OS like that could really bring talent from many disciplines together. Like I am pretty sure I could master C++ or C#, but I just don't have the time to mature into one that lives and breathes it and vice versa.

Without knowing your angle, I find it hard to think of anything but a WebOS running in a browser on a OS and I have personally never seen the point of that. Replace the OS or don't bother.

I also think that JavaScript comes with the expectation of an open-source nature, not sure what your thoughts on that are?

Also, on the MS-angle: definitely, most people expect things to be done the Windows-way. But the adoption of the iPhone and Google Android is changing all that, if your WebOS is what I think it is I'd follow in their footsteps as far as interface is concerned, not the Windows-way.
