What planet is THIS guy on?
« on: July 21, 2004, 07:56:21 AM »

Oh my.

Link

I ran across a link to this via a Yahoo message group -- I don't normally read anything from this site.

Quote
There is a lesson to learn in all of this. The Civil Libertarians are a relic of a time that has long since past. They, in the name of freedom and commerce, continually stand in the way of much-needed measures that aim to insure that every American has the opportunity to live free lives and pursue commerce.

So only by giving up our freedom can we live free?

HUURRRRRRR??

Quote
If the United States Congress were serious about protecting this country, it would explore:
  • A National Identification Card
  • A Domestic Intelligence Service
  • Greater video surveillance at major cities and airports
  • Greater monitoring of international communication done by online methods like e-mail
  • The monitoring of all news services, news websites, and movies for messages and biases that encourage sympathy with terrorists or terrorist sympathizers.[/list:u]
(emphasis added)

I'm totally perplexed at how anyone can want to live in a totalitarian police state.

This guy's either a troll, or he's somehow mentally defective.  Seriously.  I don't say that just because I don't agree with him, but because he doesn't make logical sense.

Can someone explain this to me?

You can't have great personal freedom and have a truly secure state.  The only way to ensure the absolute security of citizens is to establish a police state.  But police states fly in the face of what this country is all about.

People who want to slap restrictions on expression and do away with privacy laws mostly intend to keep the country safe and secure, while ignoring the fact that this country was founded PRECISELY to AVOID this sort of thing.  Personally, I feel that they who would strip our freedoms in order to secure the country against terrorism are those who have sold out to the terrorists.  By allowing our way of life to be altered by these terrorists, we've conceded defeat.

I'd live in a totalitarian police state, but only if I were in charge.

I don't think I'd even want that, because there would always be those out to asassinate me.  Even a totalitarian police state can't guarantee security for the individual because individuals still have some form of personal free will and can harm other individuals.  Plus in this environment others can use the police state against their enemies by falsely accusing them of crimes, much like the TIPS line that Asscraft proposed.

I prefer our constitutional system, unfortunately our current regime is pissing on it.

Don't make my secret police drag you off in the middle of the night!

Yeah, people would be wanting to assassinate me, I'm sure, but what's the fun in living without the constant threat of death hanging overhead?

You're secret police would be in drag?

Speaking of drag, I'm going to the city on Friday to meet Jane Russel and see a drag tribute followed by a screening of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.  Should be a blast!

I'm pretty sure that guy is a troll. There's no way he can overlook the basic contradiction of his argument.

I don't see what the problem is.  The simple fact is America has lost its way.  We've stepped away from the Christian ideals that this country was founded on, and we've lost sight of our true purpose with all this "civil liberties" claptrap.  The founders of this great nation would have unanimously and whole-heartedly endorse restrictions of our civil liberties for the sake of preserving our freedom.

There needs to be a national news source that tells all the networks what stories to run.  Questioning policy, pointing out shortcomings, and speaking out against the leaders of our country do nothing more than weaken this great nation.  It causes a decrease in our troops' morale, and it causes us to question the integrity of our commander-in-chief.  That, in turn, weakens the entire nation.  What we really need to do is put our faith in Jesus and our trust in Bush, and stand behind him unquestioningly.  He is, after all, the most qualified man for the job.  People who are opposed to any of this are traitors to the United States and should be treated as such.

I am, of course, being sarcastic.

I'm just posting what I see on the news and read on the web.  It hurts my brain to even consider that people actually think that way and endorse the you either love and support the president, or you hate America and our troops mindset.  But then, everything on the internet is true.

Oh, I started the day wearing sweat pants and shirt, but half way through I decided screw it and stripped that off and wore my tshirt and shorts cause of the heat + humidity.

Last time I played I had 13 welts in various places, this time I only have four. Either I got better, or lack of protection caused me to be more careful. :-)
