Norton Firewall and ZoneAlarm... Possible Conflicts??
« on: January 10, 2006, 11:57:02 PM »

Got Norton 2K6 for xmas only to realize it has it's own firewall. However I already use ZoneAlarm.

I've been running for about a day now with both ZA and Norton on. There haven't seemed to be any conflicts (other than ZA marking Norton as a "High Level Threat").

Has anyone else been in this situation. I am concerned that by running both at once i might be at risk.

Thanks...

Is there some where to turn off the Norton firewall? or you can always turn of ZA easily.

Turning off the Norton stuff is always a pain in the ass.

Personally, I think it's a bad idea to install it to begin with.  There are far better alternatives.

The majority of Norton products are, in my opinion, bloated sacks of code. The only thing I use of theirs it the Anti-Virus corporate edition. It's lightweight and seems to be able to catch most anything out there.

Not if you're like my place of work. We have Norton 2004, which is probably alright, just the fact that the definitions are from 2004 as well can't be helpful.

Aye, I agree. I've never liked Norton very much.

I used to like Norton.  Then he stole my laserdisc copy of "Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam" and I had to beat him to death with a pickled herring and bury his dismembered corpse under an oak tree in the middle of the night along a deserted stretch of country road and then I bought a Black Cherry soda and listened to polka unil my ears bled so I stuffed them with cotton to keep the blood from staining my shirt and I didn't hear the alarm the next morning so I was late for work and . . . . uh, perhaps I've said too much.

Two things: 1 - Try not to bump almost month old threads and 2 - I'm glad I'm not the only one who's heard of Dr. Otto.
