Dual Boot OS
« on: February 28, 2006, 10:12:01 PM »

I'm rebuilding my current box with a 250gb external and Dual Boot OS... however I can't deside what the second OS will be...

The first one is Windows XP which will take up 5gigs on my internal hard drive and will use the external for it's filesystem...

That leaves a 5gig swap file and 68gigs for the other OS...

I tryed Debian... but xfree86 won't start up  :x

I am thinking of trying Red Hat...

Suggestions please  :D

try a linux distro that uses X.org instead of xfree86...X.org has better support for newer graphics cards

I have been thinking about going a dual boot with WinXP and SuSE 10, but that is just cause I have heard that is a good distro for new commers to Linux.

I've tried Ubuntu on a dual boot with Win XP and it's fine.
Very low on special configurations.

- Automatix - is your friend if you use Ubuntu.

If you have little knowledge on using linux than Ubuntu is for you.
WinXP first, and Ubuntu after works perfect.
You can get your geekness on after it's working by trying to install XGL.

I agree with Mr_J_ .

Unbuntu is really user friendly, i used it for a while until my geekyness beard needed to be stroked a little harder.  :)

Of course if you really want to learn linux you should try less auto-magical distros like Gentoo or Slackware.
