Getting Reaquainted with Geek Roots
« on: July 27, 2009, 02:46:29 PM »

hello, i my name is nick. i am currently trying to get back in touch with my geek roots. i just got out of a relationship with "The Ex" that destroyed 96% of my identity and devoured the souls of several friends brave enough to stand up to her. so now i am getting back into all things geek oriented. im a casual gamer, i love my xbox. i have live, GrandmasBoi61 is my tag if you wish to add me. I love sci-fi books. Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail is my favourite all time movie. hopefully i will be attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh this time next year for game art and design.

haha hadn't considered that. it would be rather sweet to rediscover that i am a $30 million dollar ass kicking machine. it would not, however, be sweet to rediscover that my identity is Matt Damon.

unfortunately i could not afford the 1080, so i had to purchase the 360 which considering the name suggests a full circle leading back to where Microsoft began is a bit of a misgnomer.

And hey, did anyone yell at you yet about your broken shift key?

Michael Crichton.

They made a movie out of it.  Had Samuel L Jackson and Dustin Hoffman in it, I think.  But the movie was no good.  Book was good.

I thought the movie was ok. I just hope there are no more Michael Crichton books coming out as movies. I know they read like scripts, but lets let the man rest in piece.

It was cancer.

Congo was kinda weird and yeah the movie wasn't that good.  Jurasic Park was the best book ever!  And Jeff Goldblum did an awesome job as Ian Malcom.  The movie was pretty good.  The movie was about about dinosaurs but the book...that was about MATH!!  It was really great.

From wikipedia about Sphere..."The novel follows a psychologist named Norman Johnson, who is called by the United States Navy to join a team of scientists assembled by the U.S. Government to examine an enormous spacecraft discovered on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. The depth of coral covering the craft proves that it has been lying there for over 300 years and so could only be of alien origin.

The novel begins as a science fiction story, but quickly transforms into a psychological thriller, ultimately exploring the nature of the human imagination."

I didn't like Prey that much, but I accidentally got the abridged version.  I did like State of Fear alot.

Ah yes, cancer. Thanks Detta!

Prey and State of Fear were good, but Next felt a little off. It seemed really disjointed. I kept wanting it to go from tangled web of characters to epic lesson about the hazards of corporate owned genetics, but it never did. It was still good, just not quite as much of a page turner as his earlier works.

oooh! Heart of the Assassin comes out next week. Anyone who likes awesome, cinematic, suspensful, action packed, stories with interesting characters and a thought-provoking plot should check out Prayers for the Assassin and Sins of the Assassin by Robert Ferrigno. truly an awesome series.
