this may be the stupidest thing I have ever done in my entire life. I was thirteen at he time.

okay, so I found one of thus little nail things at a construction site. the kind that comes in a .22 shell with one end crinkled up and a gunpowder charge at the other end? anyone familiar with that? you hit the back end with some kind of tool, setting off the charge and driving the nail into whatever its on top of.

anyway, I found one. decided to set it off with one of my dads hammers, figured I would drive it into a rock. after getting it lined up and hitting it a few times - unsuccessfully - I figure it's a dud and try to get it open to see whats inside. my tool of choice? the hammer.

after three or four hits it blew. nobody was hurt but I was deaf for a good half minute, and we never found the casing or the nail.

Okay, I'll bite. First, I've done a shitload of stupid stuff, so those who know me will attest that this story comprises the tip of the iceberg. Also, it's a fairly old story, so I can laugh about it now.

I was camping with friends at a conference and drinking in a circle around a propane lantern. I'd had, dunno, 13 beers and a few different shots of liquor (tequila, rum, etc.) so my head wasn't exactly screwed on. Being the friendly sort, I decided I needed to get up and go visit some other groups hanging out, so I put a hand on my chair and another on top of the lantern instantly giving myself a nifty dime-shaped 2nd degree burn on my left hand. I, of course, being impervious to the pain and suffering of the ordinary man, immediately grabbed some ice from a cooler nearby to cool the burn with and proceeded to go hang out with the other folks.

One of them, of course, astutely suggested that my burn may be more serious than I thought, and that I might want to get it looked at by someone at the infirmary there on camp. I denied needing any sort of examination, and the bastards naturally ratted on me to my group. Those jerks came and got me, forced me to go to the infirmary and get my hand bandaged, then rudely pushed me into my tent and told me to stay put for the rest of the night; I suppose to "sleep it off". I know what you're thinking, "How dare they!". I thought the exact same thing- so I just waited about five minutes till they were out of earshot and got back out of my tent to go hang out some more.

Which is when Detta busted me, and made me go back to my tent and finally get some sleep.

I'm still too traumatized by my encounter with an exploding propane BBQ to give it full MSPaint justice.

That was back in 2001, and I haven't used a propane grill since.

Charcoal may be many things, but explosive isn't one of them.

I still use a propane grill. It can be safe. Just make sure you have a functioning igniter. If you discover you do not, shut the valve and let the gas dissipate before using a lighter.

Oh, my problem was 100% human error. The grill was not at fault. I no longer trust myself around invisible heavier-than-air explosive gasses that can accumulate in enclosed built-in BBQ structures because I didn't turn the valve all the way off the night before.

Well the most stupid thing i've ever done is probably when i tried to shave my eyelashes. I cut my eyelid slightly and thought that I should put some disinfectant on it to clean the wound. Obviously that was one of the worst things I could have done as it didn't clean it, it just made it even more painful. I was only about 13 at the time, I wouldn't do something THAT stupid now

The most stupid thing i have ever done was accidently got my hand stuck to the toilet seat after helping my friend build a tree house. And it just so happened for that day i had a test on binomial nomenclature (love this subject)...i forgot to wipe the superglue off my hand and so it got stuck to the toilet seat. i was an hour late after my friend managed to unattach my hand from the toilet. when i ran into the lesson late i didnt have the guts to tell my teacher i got my hand stuck on the toilet seat. even though by now my hand had gone red and swollen. so stupid!
