For the hell of it, because I have mixed feelings about this movie, I decided I'd make this a thread.

Personally, I thought it was a bored, tired, recycled storyline. But the CG was awesome and it was beautiful, I just couldn't get into a plot I felt like I'd seen before. Short review: I want to like it, but it just feels off to me, boring yes, and something else is weird about it, I can't really say what. It just is... odd.

Since a good friend of mine recently went off on a rant about it, I thought I spout it in Shoutbox and then decided to thread it.

What do you guys think of this story? Not the CG, because they were banging hot, just plot. Maybe I can figure out what feels so off about this.

I liked it. mostly because of he cg and the action.

the plot not so much. too many aesops, mostly environmental, anticorporate, antihuman, that sort of thing. the more a story has that sort of thing in it,no matter what the moral actually is, the less realistic it is. but yeah, overall I liked it.

So you might have liked it more if the human plowed them all down and won?

good point. everyone wants to see the underdog win, even if they happen to be winning against humans.

You know, my two cents on the whole thing is its only real selling point is the sfx. The plot is generic, very generic. The action is predictable and the only sweet scene is the aerial combat towards the end but the whole fight in the woods when whats her name is going to take on the walkers, so damn predictable.

I downloaded a version of it because I knew I wouldn't like it and the only way I'd spend money on seeing it was in 3D.

I have no idea why its up for all these awards and got best picture at one of them that I heard. Best Drama or something... Seriously?

The only strong point it shows is humans mow down whatever for something that want.....

I've seen older sci-fi's that are better sci-fis then that pile. I saw District 9 before Avatar and District 9 is SOOOO much better and the effects were just slightly less then Avatar.

I'm scared to see what the future of sci fi movies is going to look like because of this movie. I am a fairly big sci fi fan so I hope it boosts the genre decently but I hope the stuff is better then Avatar and I hope its more original and doesn't use such a set formula.

Special Effects imo should be used as a wow factor to make things pop off the screen, they shouldn't carry the film.

Saw this movie just a couple of days ago - great in 3D but basically a sci-fi space age version of Dances with wolves.... and is it wrong that i thought the blue cat lady love interest was a bit hot???
