I think you guys are missing the point. This isn't something unique to low paying, hourly jobs. Corporate America does the exact same thing, even for jobs that require highly skilled people. There's no "when I was starting out" memory, because it will continue to happen throughout your working life.

You're right V. I know so many people that have had to leave their companies to get anywhere ... some come back as contractors making WAY more, some leave for a couple of years and come back and some just leave and the company loses the talent and the corporate knowledge cuz they were cheap with their full time people.

Never forget that to a company you will never be anything more than a resource. If you are replaceable, you will be as soon as it will be financially advantageous to the company.

I was also working at walmart when the minimal wage increased. The one i worked at has a raise system where you get a quarter raise every about half a year. I started the job at 7.00 an hour and didnt increase when minimal wage increased so newcomers were getting payed 8.50 an hour and I was still at 7. I quit 2 weeks later. cheap bastards

You do realize that is grounds for a class action lawsuit, right? By law, they are required to pay NO LESS than the minimal wage on and after the date set forth by the state / federal government. Though, a large corportaion like Wal-Mart would not be dumb enough to violate labor laws so blatently obvious like that.

He was still getting payed above minimum wage. WI's minimum is 6.50 (effective last June).

This is all one of the reasons I oppose raising the minimum wage. Everyone make over minimum also expects to get bumped up in pay. Employers have to pay more to get employees and the increase is ultimately pass on to the end consumer. It is what I call the $20 Big Mac scenario.

That is why I disagree with the whole worker's union stuff. Almost always if a union gets what it wants someone gets hurt (and almost never the company).

What the hell sort of union do you guys have going down there? I think that mine does...almost EXACTLY the opposite of what yours seems to do.
