I feel like an idiot >.< Keyboard issues...
« on: June 16, 2007, 04:27:20 PM »

Ok, so for the longest time I had the same crappy keyboard that came with the Dell computer I'm stuck with. Recently it hasn't been working, and I found that if I unplugged it and then plugged it back into another USB port, it would start working again. But then it stopped working altogether. Since everything else that operates via USB port was working just fine, I figured the keyboard was broken, so I bought a new one. It was getting time anyway.

So now I've got a Saitek Eclipse II, and I'm having much the same issue...it only works when it decides it wants to. Does anyone know what might be wrong with the computer? Because now I'm thinking it must be the PC and not the keyboard after all...

It could very well be a power overload situation, an independently powered usb hub may be just the trick.
Here's a basic rundown of that with some fixes

Thank you soo much.

Luckily, I actually have one already. Sadly, I'll have to take it off MY PC. This is the family PC, the only one in the house with internet.

It's my baby.

I don't see "independent" power on that squid ...

If it draws its' power thru the usb port itself it doesn't solve the power issue (assuming of course that is the issue).

Too many devices sharing limited M'amps can cause intermittent failures.

Perhaps it is a Windows' drive issue causing the problem... Perhaps uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling it on a reboot will help fix the problem.

Where's Ves anyways? I think she has some choice words about this kind of thing...

Words about what?  Keyboard issues, or the use of Asian-variant smilies to make you seem cooler and more worldly than you really are?

Ok so just to follow up:

I'm pretty cheap, especially when I'm buying crap for other people, so I went to best buy and bought this and it has fixed the problem.

It's a 4 port USB hub with an independent power source as you suggested, RelandR. I appreciate it.

THANK YOU

Just use the on screen keyboard if it happens again

This computer doesn't have one. I'm downloading one now, though, just in case.
