Not that I smoke the stupid shit, but I'll throw this age old argument out there because I know it's going to be the first thing said in the defense of smoking marijuana:

"Who is the government to say what I can and cannot ingest in my own body?!?!"

I wish the kid at my old high school lunch table was still around to tell me how "smoking pot is better for you than drinking soda". In some cases pot seems to be a predecessor to other drug usage, such as acid because, well, it makes them feel good, dude! One of the kid's friends tried acid thinking it would make him feel good, but instead he thought he was a bird, jumped out of a second story window and wound up in a coma for several weeks. Yeah, I bet he felt real good after that. Fucking morons.

This should go in the Flamer's Corner because this thread is going to quickly turn into a "whine about how I can't do what I want" thread.

I don't feel you should smoke it.  I feel that it's morally reprehensible and generally repugnant.  I think the government should not only keep it illegal and punishable, I feel that they should do the same for cigarettes and cigars, but for different reasons.  It is my feeling that it is the government's responsibility to keep us safe from ourselves.

I'm sure it rules, but I just choose not to smoke it. I wouldn't put that on myself or my kids. Everybody else is free to enjoy whatever they wish, but it's not for me.

Chris, you basicaly have two arguments against it in your post:

1) that it leads to heavier drugs. But one can argue that beer leads to strong drink, or chicken roast to fried pork and so on. That's what being intelligent and responsible mean, to know when/where to stop. I've smoked pot and hashish for 15 years (as in 1 time every few months or so), never felt the need for something harder. Same with most of my friends.

2) that it makes you do stupid/dangerous things. Again, drunk people are a lot more irresponsible and violent than stoned people, and i know that i did a lot more stupid things being drunk than stoned.

So are you making a case againts alchool then?  :-o

For the sakes of argument, you can't justify one bad behavior by validating it against adifferent but equally bad behavior.

"Heavier drugs" are also illegal.  Hard liquor and fried pork are both legal.

Surely you don't intend to impart intelligence and responsibility upon the masses as the basis of your argument.

I used to smoke and sell this years ago. Really it just got old. I just don't see the fun in being a jackass from being stoned anymore. I watched it ruin more than a few lives. I think smoking it in moderation from time to time is fine. I'm guilty of smoking it about once a month during a D&D session. But really we don't need something else that's legal to ruin our personal health and mentality as well as others.

Legalize it, at the same time heavier punishments for hard drugs use and sell. Imho I see pot on the same level as alcohol.

That's true. What i meant to say is that it bothers me that alcohol is legal and pot is not. As for what does one do when under the influence of either is one's own responsibility, legal or moral. You should know if you can handle getting drunk/stoned without doing something antisocial. If you break the law you are guilty (i was drunk/stoned is not a valid plea) , and if you like being an ass, that's your business.

But i don't like the hypocrisy of one substance being legal and others illegal just because one was historically more used (at least in the western cultures) and others were not. So you should be for either legalisation of light drugs or for criminalizing alcohol.

And what about coffee and tobacco?

If the rule makers in this country we forced into that decision, it's most likely they would go with the latter. Hey! we could unRepeal the 18th! Or the states could start using the 21st.

Hm, no thanks. I'm sure pot smokers out there would rather keep doing it in their homes away from the smokeys and just keep bitching about it.

...criminalizing alcohol.

We already tried that and it didn't turn out too well.

Okay, here's my take on the subject.

As an ex user, grower, and distributor (I never sold it but gave away loads) I always enjoyed the use of it.  As some know I work in the construction industry.  Back then I was a carpenter or carpenter foreman.  I never had trouble doing my job or keeping up with anyone on the site.

Then came the time I started doing layout full time on a multimillion dollar project.  About 13.4M if I remember right, but that was twenty some odd years back.  I began to notice that things that I had done or looked up the day before were things that I had to go back and look up the dimensions/numbers on the next day.  That bothered me.

I had read about it effecting short term memory but didn't buy into it at the time.

I quit.  And the effect on the short term memory was short lived.

These days if you work in a factory, construction, etc. and you get hurt the first thing they do is a drug screening.  Our company policy is to provide a drug free work force (good luck with that) and if you come up positive you are terminated.  I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole these days.  But I used to grow some kickass sensi.

Never used it.  Don't have a problem with those that do.  I'm for decriminalization of users.  I'm for regulating it as interstate commerce (not quite sure how this would work yet), so basically some form of legalization to remove the black market and the behaviors inherent in it.  I'm for reclassification of the drug since there appear to be medicinal benefits, and would like to remove the prohibitions from clinical research.

I've done a lot of stuff in my past, but if I ever do any drug again, it will not be a downer. I don't see the fun in anything that makes you lazy. Just my thoughts.

I used it once a long time ago. Didn't do much for me except make my eyes bloodshot and make me eat about a pound of cheese.

I used it a couple of times. I liked it just fine, but it really isn't for me. I don't need drugs to be happy, and I don't ever want to let myself fall into a rut in which I DO need them.

I have nothing against anyone who wants to smoke pot. I disagree with BizB in that it is not the job of the government to protect us from ourselves; that is your own personal job as a human being. If you wanna kill yourself with cigarettes, alcohol, or LSD, you should be able  to.

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
