Anarchy / What's New?
« on: May 04, 2014, 08:45:54 PM »
Did someone do this already?  I'm doing it here.  I haven't been here in like, two years.  Stuff's happened in that time.   What's that stuff?

Me?  My kids are 4 and almost 3.  I'm teaching at a private school that's having some financial troubles.  I moved into an awesome new house.

Ok so I guess not that much stuff has happened.  I haven't slept in three years.  So that's nice.

Anarchy / When Nerds Procreate!
« on: June 12, 2012, 06:48:13 AM »
This seems like a good place to put all the ways my daughter is a good little nerd.  She's 2 1/2.  Feel free to join in if you have nerd kids!

Today, she was playing with some triangle shapes and I said "What happens when you put two equilateral triangles together?".  She said "Da da rhombus!"

So proud.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Webcam on HP Laptop
« on: October 26, 2011, 08:57:28 AM »
I know there's a very small chance, but does anyone here have an HP laptop?  Have problems with the webcam?  Ours stopped working all of a sudden. Enrique was on the phone with HP for hours last night and finally quit at 1am. They didn't get it working.

You can post your answer here, but maybe make it small so there are no spoilers for those who want to do the puzzle.

A gym container holds 50 balls of two sizes and two colors.  Twenty-two balls are large and red, 12 balls are small and 26 balls are green.  How many of the balls are small and green?

Anarchy / Puzzle of the Week 17
« on: May 09, 2011, 03:00:03 PM »
We're at the end of the contest.  This is the last puzzle in the Spring 2011 Puzzle Contest.  It's a bit different.

You will get five clues to name a category.  One clue each day.  You can PM me one guess each day for each game (there are two different games and thus two different categories).  Every day, the point value goes down.  There are two different categories, so you should PM me two different answers each day.  Point values for EACH GAME will be given as follows:  Mon - 40 points, Tues - 32 points, Wed - 20 points, Thurs - 10 points, Fri - 4 points.  So it is possible to get as much as 80 points for this final puzzle.

PM me the answer.  Do not post it here.  And let's be fair folks.  No googling.

Anarchy / Puzzle of the Week 14

I think this week and next may overlap due to my tardiness.

PM me the answer.  Do not post it here.

Puzzle #14 (4/21/11)

Send the answer by Wednesday.  This is a Super Duper Double Puzzle Wacky Week!  The scoring will be different.  Usually, anyone who answers on Monday gets 25 points, Tuesday 20 points, Wednesday 15 points and so on down.  This week, each day is still assigned a certain number of points, but the order is jumbled.  You may get 25 points on Wednesday, but only 10 points on Monday.  So answer the first puzzle and then guess which day to answer it on so that will get you the most points.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!  You can solve puzzle B and that will tell you which days are worth what points.  Puzzle B involves the digits 1-9.  Once solved, look at the order of digits 1-5, they will correspond to the days of the week.  Thursday (today) = 1, Fri/Sat/Sun = 2, Mon = 3, Tues = 4, Wed = 5.  So for example, if the puzzle solution puts a 5 first (reading left to right, top to bottom), and then a 1, that would mean that Wed is worth the most points, followed by today being worth the second most points.

Sorry if that's confusing.  You only have to answer Puzzle A to get points and it's an easy one.

Puzzle A

Each set of letters below began as a two-word phrase in which both words started with the same letter (like evil eye or jumbo jet).  I've removed the initial letters of the words and then removed the space between them.  What were the original phrases?

1. astood
2.  loseall
3.  minocid
4.  emonaw
5.  uffiece
6.  open

Puzzle B is attached.

Bonus Puzzle #1 (4/6/11)

I found this fun one today.   I will flip a coin for each person to send me the answer by the end of tomorrow.  Heads, you get 10 points.  Tails, you lose 5 points.  If you want to do it just for fun, let me know that in your PM, you'll get no points.

First, underline the body part hiding in the consecutive letters in each of the eight groups below.  Then figure out how to swap the eight body parts among the groups so that each replaced item and its exterior letters will form a common English word.

COLCHINE             RANOSESS             MERCEARISE             ELEGUFFS

And no, "Thunder3Davis" is not the answer to "plow animal", as studly as he may be...

Ok so I'm typing an email using gmail and I don't know what happened (crap like this always happens on this laptop), but all of a sudden everything is GIGANTIC!!  But it's only in one tab.  The rest of them are regular.  I don't even know how to adjust the font size in Chrome since there are no menus on top.

Does anyone know anything?
