Grown ups judging grown ups playing pokemon - is it OK to?
« on: July 23, 2010, 12:54:19 PM »

To me it's like a sign of authoritarian personality issue at best, or a serious pokemon hate crime, at worst. It's not a "who's right and who's wrong" issue. It's an adult emulating a parent to children behavior on another adult who has the full capacity to make his own decision. But I am interested in other takes.

I will re-iterate my viewpoint from that other thread and say instead of judging grown ups playing pokemon, we should encourage it. I can't have all the pokemon playing guys suddenly start striking up conversations with all the ladies out there. It's hard enough as it is!

Keep on playing!

Authoritarian implies I have both the power and the will to change it... which I would never do to another adult, no matter how lame.
Also, I would think the Pokemon hate crime would be best, and the authoritarian personality would be worst. But I guess that depends on how strongly you feel about Pokemon (and authoritarianism for that matter).

As for whether it's ok to judge... I'll just say of course it is, and it's a funny question coming from someone whose user name is TheJudge.

Cherubim is plural; Genesis 3:24 specifies one flaming sword. Presumably flaming swords were in short supply."

Welll *I* can do it. Not because I'm TheJudge, but because I have double standards!

It's the same thing as judging your peers for other various interests. We all have our things we think are lame, whether it be video games, movies, or music. Even though I'm quick to get defensive when someone gives me shit for, say, liking World of Warcraft, I'd be just as quick to make a snarky remark if I found out she/he was a War and Peace by Dostoyevsky fan. It's all the same, isn't it?
