Hey guys, know I haven't posted in a while. I was pretty busy with school for the last 4 months... I started learning PHP and PostgreSQL as one of my new years resolutions for 2009, and to facilitate in my learning, I decided to develop an actual application, rather than just write random little scripts Basically the application is a networked sales vendor system, for the metaverse Second Life (which I have been a long time member of), that utilizes a PHP backend to keep track of sales for individual users. Allowing users to view tables of their sales, and sort them based on sale volume, vendors sold from, etc... And then export the data to excel. Anyway, one problem that I am facing at this point is how I am going to remove vendor records from the database, when they are deleted within Second Life. There is no way for me to send requests from the server into Second Life; I can only send http requests from SL to my server. One solution I have devised is to have a timer in my scripts that will have the vendors ping my server, updating a timestamp. I will then have CGI on my server that will run a garbage collection routine that will go through my database and flag entries which have not had the timestamp updated within a certain amount of time, and alerting the user that their vendors/servers are no longer available in world. The problem I'm having is I don't know the first thing about CGI. I'm thinking that Perl would be good for this, but I'm not absolutely sure... Does anyone know some good tutorials for Perl CGI programming that would allow me to have a script like this, which continuously runs in the background on my server? I tried Google but I am having difficulty finding what I'm looking for...

I was bored and decided to Google 'image recognition software' and came up with this website about a project called the 'Flo Control Box' which is essentially a cat door that uses a digital camera and image recognition to determine whether the cat (named Flo) has a mouse in her mouth, and prevents her from entering if that's the case. I got a kick out of it. Linkage

That is assuming you have a website, and if you don't what would you name it? I picked spazghost.com based off of that having been my handle since I was a nub back in middle school. On a side note, I'm thinking of actually getting a new domain sometime in the future, possible keast-to-west or keast2west.com (keast is my last name, so I thought the play on words would be clever). I'm doing this mostly because I don't feel 'spazghost.com' would be all that appropriate in the professional world

I purchased 2 XFX 8800 GT's last night. I read that it is required that you have at least a 400W PSU, however after talking to one of my friends he said that he personally wouldn't attempt to do SLI with under a 600W PSU, but he also said something to the effect of PSU's that are running closer to their full output run with greater efficiency as opposed to when they are not being used as much. Do you guys think that my Kingwin 520W PSU will be able to take the load of those 2 cards running in SLI, as well as the 3 SATA drives I have? Or would I be better off making the additional investment in a more powerful PSU, such as an 800W Kingwin PSU?

I'm gonna be starting college next year, majoring in computer science. So I'm going through all the programming languages I know and relearning a lot of them, my question is; what are the most important ones to know?
The ones I'm relearning right now are: Java C C++ Python PHP
What other ones should I take a look at?

I'm getting some work done on my semester reading project for American Literature, and my question is: Would Catch 22 be considered Post-Modernism?
And, if not, what era of American Literature would Catch 22 fall under?

I know I haven't posted anything in a few months but I've got a good reason! I've been busy with the most awesome competition ever, and it's called FIRST If you haven't heard of it, it's a competition where teams from all over the world compete to build the best robot they can in 6 weeks, in order to compete in a set challenge against other teams. Link to the FIRST website -> FIRST RoboticsThis was my first year with FIRST and it was awesome our team came second in the West Michigan Regional (we would've won, but we lost 20 points due to penalties ), which qualifies us for the International Competition in Atlanta on April 12-14. Our main programmer isn't able to go so I'm gonna be taking over, so it should be interesting to see how things go. Some pictures of our team: Finished robotFinal robot (after parts fell off)Team PictureI'll be posting more pictures on my website after the Internationals in Atlanta Hopefully we will keep up our winning streak!

Just installed a new heatsink I bought onto my gaming rig and man does it work good... Right now I have it set at 1/2 speed and my cpu temp is idling at 28C and has gotten as high as 38C under heavy load. Obviously much cooler then the 36C idle of my previous heatsink Installing it is a bit tricky, but once you get it in it is COMPLETELY worth your time. A few cons about it however, at full speed (~4800RPM) it is INCREDIBLY LOUD putting out about 46.86dBA! But that can be easily corrected by turning it down to 1/2 power. If anyone is looking for a heatsink that is small enough to fit in any case, yet packs the power of the larger heatsinks, I would recommend you take a look at this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835220011EDIT: Updated tempratures after running under heavy load... Also checked logs, and updated previous heatsink temp with ACTUAL idle temp

Is there such a thing because I just got a second flatscreen monitor and my graphics card (Radeon 9250 PCI 256mb) only had one VGA, but also a S-Video and RCA port. So for me to use extended desktop I have to hook the new monitor up to my integrated graphic card. The cards must not be interfacing properly because i don't get my taskbar or my wallpaper extended to the other monitor. Also the settings for each card say I only have one monitor attached to my box. So I thought I'd buy an adapter for S-Vid to VGA or an adapter for RCA to VGA. My only problem is I am having trouble finding one and am begining to doubt they even exist, or that what I am trying to do can even be done. Bestbuy, CompUSA, AND Radioshack didn't have one. Even Newegg was unable to provide me with the adapter I am seeking... So if anyone knows of where I can buy one of these or where I can find plans to make one please tell me... and if it isn't possible... tell me that too so I can stop wasting my time with this issue...

I'm rebuilding my current box with a 250gb external and Dual Boot OS... however I can't deside what the second OS will be... The first one is Windows XP which will take up 5gigs on my internal hard drive and will use the external for it's filesystem... That leaves a 5gig swap file and 68gigs for the other OS... I tryed Debian... but xfree86 won't start up I am thinking of trying Red Hat... Suggestions please

I recently bought an iPod Video.... I got the 30gb because i am poor On the box it says it has a 14hour battery life. Yet after about 6 hours (or less) of use the battery meter displays aroung 5% battery life. During this time I would be using it I would be simply listening to music. Has anyone else noticed similar battery problems with the iPod Video? If so I would love to hear your opinion on the matter.

Got Norton 2K6 for xmas only to realize it has it's own firewall. However I already use ZoneAlarm. I've been running for about a day now with both ZA and Norton on. There haven't seemed to be any conflicts (other than ZA marking Norton as a "High Level Threat"). Has anyone else been in this situation. I am concerned that by running both at once i might be at risk. Thanks...

Hey I have gotten tired of using geocities and am looking for a webspace hosting site that is free and keeps ads to a minimum. Does anyone know anything like this. Oh yeah, it has to have more than 10mb of webspace per account.
And no I cannot afford my own domain but my website server will be ready by next year, I hope XP.
