Anarchy / Holiday plans?
« on: December 19, 2005, 01:49:25 AM »
Over my month long break from college, I'll be working enough hours to pay off that college education, as well as spending some of it performing much needed maintenance around here, and other sites as well. Hopefully this month I'll get a grip on the bandwidth problems that have been following me around like athlete's foot for the past two months.

If I may remark, after watching about 10 minutes of one of his addresses, he makes it SO obvious that he is reading something that he did not write, it's not even funny.

Hopefully next election we'll pick the right candidate. I voted for Kerry last time around.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Dell + FTP
« on: December 02, 2005, 03:47:47 PM »
I don't think your problem lies within the computer itself. Sending it back would be nearly foolish unless the network card or other major componets do not work. Even still it can be replaced without sending the entire unit back.

Is it just FTP that does not work?

I've heard of gum chewing, or anything that you can chew (and not risk choking on) helps to relax the body when in a stressful situation. Obviously body parts and other parts from animals are probably excluded from this as well.

Anarchy / The Geek Forum Hall of Fame
« on: November 21, 2005, 09:28:35 PM »
I figured that we could do a thread with some flash backs, or posts that you guys think are worthy to be in the Geek Forum Hall of Fame.

My vote is probably pretty obvious for all of you old-timers here. There are quite a few threads here that make me chuckle, but none quite like this one.

For those of you who haven't been here long enough, basically the guy wanted to go back to high school even though he was about twenty-something years old. We thought it was a bad idea, and I forget who actually gave the local police department from where the guy lives the heads up, but they were actually able to stop the guy from entering the high school. If I remember correctly, the cops actually showed up at his door.

I wonder what he's up to now...

Anarchy / Whoops! Bandwidth Limit Exceeded
« on: November 20, 2005, 04:34:11 AM »
It happened again. Even after the owner of my host upgraded my account to the next level for free, I am still running very tight on bandwidth. I'm not sure if I am going to have enough to get through this month without paying extra.

I am looking into colocating a server about 30 minutes north of where I live - which isn't too bad if I don't go during certain times when the streets are like parking lots around here. I can get a pretty good deal at the location, so the hardest part is going to be setting up and configuring a server (Or two).

New Geeks on the Block / i want to know more about geek culture
« on: November 17, 2005, 11:24:37 AM »
Here is a link to Google in regards to what a "geek" is.

Pretty soon you're going to see commercials on TV advertising new cool "geek style" jeans for Old Navy or some other sell-out store.

This reminds me of the time someone came into my place of work and claimed to be my father, and insisted that my name was David. He said, "I have nothing but love in my heart for you, David".

Pretty freaky shit. I called the cops on the guy becauce he would not leave my store.

On the first page it says:

Hey morons! This is not a real help page for Sub 7. Don't you idiots know what 'sarcasm' means? Do not email me with your questions on how to get an IP address or how to turn on your computer. I will not answer, and if I do answer, it will not be with something nice or helpful.

If you cannot convert your drive from the FAT file system to NTFS, you will simply not be able to have a file that is larger than 4 gigs. It's that simple.

Anarchy / Whoops! Bandwidth Limit Exceeded
« on: September 30, 2005, 03:37:37 AM »
Some of you maye have tried to login/view the forums last night, but instead were greated with a white page that stated the bandwidth limit had been exceeded.

Obviously, that means that this place is quite popular, and reqiures more transfer! I bought this place some time by playing around with my quotas since the quotas are only checked once a day by a script, but I simply don't have enough bandwidth to go around between all of my accounts. Some of the previous months I have been using almost a quarter terabyte worth of bandwidth, so it's time for an upgrade.

Later on today I will get in contact with the owner of the hosting facility to see what I can get, as he's a pretty generous guy since I'm client seventy something, out of about 10,000. He and I go way back.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Sharing Internet
« on: September 29, 2005, 01:41:36 PM »
I have an older version of that D-Link router, however I am currently using a Linksys WRT54G router / access point as my internet gateway. The only delay that you may have is when the router goes to get the name server information from your ISP if you don't manually type it in. I made that mistake when re-configuring my Linksys router and forgot to write down what name servers I was using, so I had to wait it out for a few minutes.

As much as I'd like to say there are some really STUPID people out there, sadly, I don't think there are people out there that are stupid enough to write something like that and believe what they had written was the truth.

This made me think, I have only met about two people in real life from these forums. It probably has to do with the fact that I live a pretty good distance away from anyone else here.

SCSI hard drives instead of IDE, as the hard drive will ultimatly be the bottleneck in just about any system nowadays. Ultra 320 is the way to go.

You also might want to give Nikon a shot. I have used several of their cameras in the past and have been pleased at their ease of use and the quaility of their pictures. I used this model for a while.

What the hell is wrong with you people? Don't you have anything better to do other than wasting space on my server with your pathetic attempts at making money?
