How to make money with the Internet
« on: April 30, 2003, 10:43:18 AM »

Before you read on, I will point out that this article is not about me telling you how to make money on the net, but about you telling me how it’s done. Some of the things mentioned in here are totally not legal and the purpose is not to encourage you on how to commit fraud, but simply to share my personal experiences with Internet marketing. If you chose to use some of these ideas to create fraud, then you are responsible. And I will h4xorz J00!!!

I’ve tried in the past and was unable to legally achieve the goal. Back when I was in university and extremely low on cash, I wanted to figure out a way to have checks fly in while I did nothing. So the Internet seemed like a good place to start. My first step was to sign up for one of those “get paid to surf the net” programs. Since I was taking an IT course at the time, I was always in front of a computer so I figured this would be the easy way out. After the 1st month, I got my 1st check. Twenty bucks. That sucked. I needed more. So I had to go around and convince people to sign up under me and use the program. So when they would surf, I would get paid. Step one towards the getting paid to do nothing dream! So I signed up a couple of friends. I get my second check later. Twenty-five bucks! What the hell??? It turns out my friends hadn’t used the program that much and I wasn’t about to start policing their Internet activities because that would be too much work. And I would become a jackass in the process.

A dilemma. On one hand, this company does send me money so this is a good start, but on the other hand, they don’t send me enough. Then, I found out about this utility that would “surf the net” on it’s own. So I tested that for a month. I maximized my payable hours and got like $50 for the month! Slow progress indeed. But still progress. Then I had the brilliant idea to use the spare PCs at the university and create an account for my girlfriend, my parents, my brothers and I setup the little cheat application to run. Well my next check was much bigger. I was pleased. I didn’t have to surf the net, the cheat app was doing it for me. And I was cashing everyone’s checks. So the dream had come true! I was getting paid for doing absolutely nothing!!! Unfortunately, the next envelope I got from them did not contain a check but a letter of account termination due to suspicious activities. Being a smart man, I decided not to pursue the matter further and be happy with what I had.

But then, the original problem came back. I was broke all the time again. So my devious mind came up with another scheme. Let’s build a virtual shopping mall. The site consisted of a bunch of categories such as electronics, automotive, etc. When you would click one category you would be brought up to a page containing a shit load of banners related to the category. So in essence, there was no content. Only banners. I learned quickly that it was very difficult to attract traffic to any site, but to this one specifically since it was so lame and I didn’t want to put any effort into it, because that’s what I had set out to do in the first place.

Again, searching around, I found a cool utility called auto mouse. On one of my pages, I had like 30 banners from the same company. I would get 2 cents per click. So I programmed auto mouse to go click those banners once every 30 seconds. Then I figured, I might as well cash in on this technology so I installed auto mouse on a total of 4 unused PCs and let them run for 48 hours. I came back o my stats page and noticed that after only 2 days auf auto-mousing, I had already accumulated $450 US!!! Then I stopped everything. I didn’t want to push my luck.

A few days later, I get an email from that company stating that there are weird activities on my account. There are like 16000 clicks, but only 4 IPs. They then make the error of stating that they did have problems with the reporting application in the past and that it was possible that I did have this amount of clicks.

I reply stating that it obviously must be a problem with the reporting system and that I could not be held responsible for the behavior of the visitors to my site. I demanded firmly to get paid and told them I was insulted by their e-mail and that there banners would be taken down from my high traffic site.

They replied by making an apology and a few weeks later, I got me a nice check in the mail. I then closed down the site (which was hosted on a university server) for fear of being discovered and kicked out of university, or worst, to be involved in legal issues with another country.

Now, can someone explain to me how the hell one can make reasonable cash legally using the Internet while doing absolutely nothing?

Actually, I wrote the article and I don't have a pron site. But again, how would making a pron site be a solution? I mean, there's so many of them already. You would still have the problem of generating resonable traffic to it.

Actually, if you are dilligent, porn sites can be rather profitable.

I read an article on k5 a while back about TGP's(thumbnail gallery posts), sites like the hun where basically people create demo sites for their porn sites, and send them to you.

These demo sites will have usually one page, with maybe 20-40 thumbnails on them, and full-size images when you click the thumbs. All you have to do is post the demos that people send in, and people will come to your site because, hey, its free porn.

Marketed well, this will give you a LOT of traffic, which you can in turn use to get clickthroughs with porn banners on your page.

or so I hear.........

Also, one thing I think you could do, if you wanted to be lazy.

Get in some banner ad programs, put up a page with banners all over them, and then write a quick program in perl or something to access them automatically, drawing from a .txt list of open proxies(open proxies can be found by the thousands in online lists).

You might have to spend a day or two coding the script, and setting it all up, but once it was done, you would have thousands of "clicks" all coming from different IP addresses, so no one would be the wiser.

........damn thats a good idea maybe I should do it.

You have to be careful when making those porn sites. I know. It seemed like a good idea to my brother and I to make a celeb site, and then we ran into some copyright crap, and now the site is no more. I don't believe I can tell you exactly how much was made from it due to the nature of the situation.

OK, well first of all I have no interest in making a pr0n site for various reasons. But if I wanted to make one, where do you think my content would come from? I'd just rip stuff off from other websites like everyone else. So there is no new content in reality.

Now, how could I use the internet to make resonable money legitimatly and without doing pr0n sites?

Make a site, write you own content, and build up a"loyal" readerbase, and then charge for banner space on the site.

It's the same method as a port site, except the content that is on the site is yours. It's hard to do, but it can be done. Sites like HardOCP and Somthing Awful make a decent amount of money from banners.

The more people you have going to your site, the more chances you have of someone actually clicking on an add and actually buying something.

Traffic. There's the ticket. Is the amount of traffic that we get here, GOOD, Chris? Or could it be improved upon?
