Title: Quitting Smoking
Post by: Dangermonk on August 13, 2010, 05:36:28 PM
Yep.  Gonna do it.  Gonna be rough, like your grandmothers, but I think I can do it, like your grandmothers.

I haven't had much of a mental reaction to severe cut-back.  There have been some reaching situations, but outside of that the withdrawals have been physical.  And honestly...  They are not any worse than a bad hangover these days.  I hate getting old. I hate doing grandmothers too.

I did not mean to sound like I was giving that kind of a command.

I just want DM to not leave.

It is nearly 4 AM.  I just woke up.  I have six beers left.  I have roughly a glass of wine left (a big glass).  I'm going to have to leave at some point to get more alcohol.

that's what you should do. instead of being a smoker, become an alcoholic! that way you can die of liver damage instead of lung cancer :-P

Because anyone who's anyone knows that cirrhosis of the liver is the new 'it' disease nowadays.

I already drink too much, but people don't seem to complain about second-hand alcohol.  I don't have to step outside every time I have a drink.  While alcohol is being taxed, it hasn't been taxed to the extent that tobacco has.  I don't have the time, knowledge, nor desire to grow and process my own tobacco.  Alcohol can be made quickly, easily, and fairly cheap.  My flask doesn't get all crinkled throughout the course of a day causing undesired, nearly permanent bends in alcohol like a flimsy pack for cigarettes does.  Most importantly, alcohol provides a level of self medication that tobacco does not.

I also don't eat sweets.

I guess it depends on how that second-hand alcohol is shared with people.

That's true. In prison they make it where they crap. I always wondered if that was one of the reason they need to keep drinking it. To forget where it came from.

In Iraq we had a mechanic (National Guard) who was an alcoholic. He doubled his workload to help the cooks out, so he could acquire sugar. He then collected all the little boxes of raisins that seem to come in every care package in quantity. He let it ferment until we (eight of us were going forward) got back; about two months or so. Only five of us were even interested in having some, so we went out by the burn pit and opened it up and passed it around. OMFG that shit was horrendous. Only two of us ventured a second sip. Grady drank the rest of it all by himself. Some alcoholics are tough motherfuckers.
