The Official Election Bitching Thread!
« on: November 03, 2004, 01:24:15 AM »

Me first.

I'm pissed off that a whole load of states decided to screw me out of marriage rights yet again.

And that Dreier didn't get kicked out of the House.

I'm pissed that the 3 strikes law in CA is about to be gutted.

I'm also ticked that Badnarik didn't even register a blip on the map.

My boyfriend is pissed off that Kerry appears to be losing. Geeze, I've never heard him use that much profanity before! Yikes!

Another election where we wake up on November 3 and still not know who our next leader is going to be. Great. This time as of about 6am there are three states that are "too close to call". This could be a long one, folks.

I'm sorry to hear that, Xolik.  I'm all for giving gay folks the same benifits as marriage.  It's not up to the Christian community to impose their morals on the country through politics.  We should do it through personal conversation and actions instead.

I'm saw on the news last night that South Carolina elected a new senator , I think it was senator, that is for keeping gays from being teachers.  He also wants to keep unwed women out too.   I'm sad to say that my home state of Oklahoma elected some one nearly as hard-line conservative as well.  Oh well, at least he'll follow who the majority of the state feels on the big issues like abortion.

I have so much to say and I can't find the words to express any of it.

For all that's good and holy, let's NOT turn Ohio into another Florida-type fiasco.

It can't be good when a country is so strongly divided. You need a third player to keep a balance.

No shit. A true multi-party system won't be viable here for a long damn time.

I had no reason to believe that Kerry would have changed the course of the war in Iraq... Just like Vietnam, which was escalated by two successive Democrat presidents, Iraq is mired in a misguided impulse to improve the world. Once begun, there is no easy way for a president to withdraw without seeming either weak or unprincipled.

I would have liked to see Bush thrown out on his ear for causing the death of thousands of innocent American soldiers and Iraqi civilians for no good reason. But at least, if this keeps developing into a deeper quagmire, the man who started it will continue to take the consequences.

What folly! A fairly controllable, fairly stable, secular arab nation will, because of Bush's lack of self-control, very possibly end up in the hands of Islamic extremists. I'll be very happy if that does not happen, but we're not even close to being able to leave Iraq without it becoming another Iran.

Back in my ultra-lefty days, fresh out of the Soviet Union, my anti-communist friends here would rail against the socialist experiment and Soviet expansionism. I would say to them, "But... you can't argue that millions of people were much better off when the Soviets overturned despotic, bloody regimes!" And you know what these guys would say to me? They would say, "The notion that the end justifies the means is fundamentally immoral!" As a fundamentally moral person, I had to agree with them.

Where is this moral conservative voice now?

Well Bush isn't a Kantian definitely, he's more of a hypocrite.

As for my bitching:

FUCK!!!  I lost.

I'm not sad at all that Kerry lost.  I'm sad that Bush won.  I would prefer not to have either of the duopolist parties in power.  I'd like to see the Peace and Freedom, The Reform, The Greens, and the Libertarians each taking prominent roles, so we can have real discussion.

To be honest, I thought that it would be the end of the world as I knew it in 2000 back when Shrubbie was first elected.  However, I'm still here and life hasn't changed much.  I still pay way too much in taxes, I still receive very little benefit for that money that is forcibly taken from me, I'm still employed, I still have crappy health care insurance, I still have insurmountable debts.  I know what I need to do for the future and I know the government is not going to help and will do all in their power to hinder me, but I will perservere.  I've faced great adversity before, and overcome insurmountable (heh, I just used that word twice) odds, and I shall do it again.

Nah... Hippies don't have money. Now, if Kerry had been elected, and all the millionaires had to flee, THEN you'd've made a bundle!

You got screwed.

Sigh... I'm just very proud of the northeast, that is all I have to say.  NH actually pulled through this year.

PA did as well, and considering I go to school here I'm proud of my friends here.  Especially the girl from the Bucknell University College Democrats who when PA went Kerry, she freaked out, stripped, and had pictures taken of her nekked with their club banner as her only clothing.

Now can be seen on collegehumor.com

We want to post it on campus with the caption "In 4 Years, vote democrat - because this girl is a slut"

I'm done thinking about the election now.  I'm going to IHOP to pour coffee on my pancakes.

I'm proud of my friends here and at HN. Despite pronounced differences of opinion, there has been zero ugliness.

In the last couple of days, I've read discussions on Fark that are enough to make you want to slit your wrists. Or destroy humanity, whichever.
