Have you been sick since x-mas? (flue, cold, etc)
Yes. Cold picked up from my two-year-old niece for a good chunk of January and a sinus infection in February.

I've had a flue for years but it's attached to my furnace.   :-D

But I did get an upper respritory infection back in January that I had to go to the doctor to get rid of.

Head cold that led to a cough for a few days, nothing serious

I was out of commission for about a week. High fever + antibiotics = more time to play GW.

Based on your strenghts/weaknesses, attitude, and general philosophy of life, which of the following D&D class would you be and why?

Fighter
Barbarian
Cleric
Wizard
Rogue
Bard
Sorcerer
Ranger
EDIT: Forgot Monk and Paladin!

Myself, I think I would be a bard. (OMG BARDS SUCK!!!). Primarly because I don't like face to face confrontations or fighting, partly because the bards I've know all tend to be smart asses which I can be. And of course, the music/creativity part.

Easy one for me: Cleric.

Aside from almost always playing a cleric-type in any RPG, I've always liked the idea of being able to go around healing the sick\hurt and having direct contact with a god and being able to call upon said god and get a tangible response. Plus bashing kobolds over the head with a flail seems like it would be fun.

Some good friends used to play D&D 2nd edition with a Roman Catholic priest.  He always played clerics.  Real good guy, he married my friend who was usually the DM.

I'd probably have to say Monk for myself.

I had to look up the info, but based on that list I’d be a Ranger. Of all of the D&D classes, I’d probably be a Paladin.

Not sure what the difference between a Wizard and a Sorceror is.

In AD&D terms I'd be a specialist magic user, probably an Enchanter or a Transmuter.

Sorc is a natural magic user. (No formal training, no schooling, no apprenticing...) In game terms, they know fewer spells but they also know those spells better than wizards. (Who got a formal education, but don't have that natural... instinct for it.)

I'd be a Bard. (I just love them, and I played a Bard in Everquest.)

Not sure what the difference between a Wizard and a Sorceror is.
The difference is how they get to generate magic.

For Wizards, it is an intelectual exercise. They must study, learn and prepare their spells in advance. As such, they have access to a broader inventory of spells. A wizard can specialise in a particular school of magic such as necromancy, transmutation, evocation and others. So it sounds like this would be your pick Demo.

Sorcerers have inate abilities and they just make things happen without having to study or prepare spells. They have a smaller spell list and they just decide on the spot which spell to cast from that list, which is significantly smaller than a wizard's list of the same level.

Can you define the personalities of each?  I never played the game.  But if the Bard is the perspicacious equus asinus then it's probably pretty close to me.

There is no predetermined personalities for each class. Which is why you can play three different characters of the same class, yet they would be very different. The class itself essentially determines the sort of things you can do and can't do. Without explaining the game in extreme details, consider that a character has 6 basic abilities, and everything they do is based on one of those ablilities which are:

Strenght - brute force of a character

Dexterity - fine motor skills, reaction time, etc

Constitution - toughness of character, stamina and health

Intelligence - HUUUUUUURRRRRRR!!! determines the number of skill points (the more skill points you have, the more skills you can learn and perfect)

Wisdom - Describes a character’s willpower, common sense, perception, and intuition. While Intelligence represents one’s ability to analyze information, Wisdom represents being in tune with and aware of one’s surroundings.

Charisma - Charisma measures a character’s force of personality, persuasiveness, personal magnetism, ability to lead, and physical attractiveness.

So if your character has low strenght and low constitution, fighter is certainly not a profession they would be good at.

But let me go back to your personality question for example. You can play a rogue, and a rogue doesn't have to be a theif. *But they sure make great theifs! I rememebr stealing a 60,000g crystal ball in a previous campaign!)

If you wanted to create a spy type character, you could use a rogue and spent skill points in skills such as:
Bluff
Move silently
hide
sense motive
disguise
forgery
gather information
climb
spot
listen
escape artist

Now, you could create another rogue and specialize it in dungeuon raiding for instance. You would probably end up with skills like:

Hide
Jump
listen
move silently
open lock
search
spot
tumble
use magic device
use rope
balance
climb
decipher script
disable device

What's interesting about the skill system as that generally there is another skill to counter a skill. For instance, if I try to bluff another character, the success of my attempt is not only determined by how good my bluff check is, but also by how good my opponenet's sense motive check is.

Personality wise, skills have no effect. Essentially you decide how you want to play your character, what your morales and values are, what you beleive in, etc. This will in turn guide you on how and when you'll want to use your skills or perform certain actions. If you are an honorable rogue, then maybe you won't try to bluff or steal from another honorable character, but if you play a greedy unprincipled rogue, you'll certainly adopt a different route in this case.

Sorry for the long post. I just really enjoy the game. And I didn't even talk about races! (They essentially affect your 6 basic abilities in positive and negative ways, plus may infuence other minor attributes. A half orc makes a better fighter than a hafling for instance).

Anyway, if you want more details on races, classes, skills and everything else,  the player's handbook for D&D 3.5 is available on line here.
