To each his own. I'd rather not jump into this head first, but I respect all opinions of those involved and we're all entitled to have our say.

I'm sitting on the fence for now. In my eyes, you're all correct simply because you believe it to be correct. Again, to each his own.

A pessimist Christian. Oh my favourite.

tehy r dum lol

A soulmate is just the person who has the highest genetic compatibility to yourself. Vespertine is right, you may never meet them. You may never meet your top billion matches. It's the cruel nature of the world.

www.match.com Your top billion soul mates all in a convienient 50 mile radius!

I believe that most people are valuable and worthy of existence, because most people can change the world and help shape society. Human beings have the ability to change whatever they're around, and that alone makes us worth it.

Indeed.*

There is plenty of love in the world, most people live together in harmony, and the world is becomming ever more globalized, which requires all people to respect each other.

Globalized respect in progress! (which is required)

Heh. No, but if one believes themselves to be correct, then they're 'correct' in their own eyes. All I'm saying is I'm not saying anything... if that makes any sense.

I'm going to disregard this post because about everything said in it is irrelevant.

The silly response was to hopefully make you realize how utterly banal your post was, but alas, that seems to have eluded you. If I toss out the same 'oh humanity is so good and we must respect each other no matter what' tripe that's been beaten into the ground and has lost all real meaning, would you then call it relevant?

Brushing off a critique of your views with an 'OMG UR NOT WORTHY OF MY TIME LOLZ' or whatnot is the true sign of an expert in the fine art of debate. Pretty much everything you posted that I quoted you on is empty feelgood bullshit that can be easily countered with real world examples. The entire post is a parade of sad internet angst and unrealistic utopian ideals.

Sarcastic remark made regarding religion? Check.
Casual write off of the soul? Check. (No soulmate, on genetic matches)
Empty feelgood crap about global love and unity totally ignoring reality? Check.
Statement of the extremely obvious? Check. (Humans can CHANGE things? I'll be damned. It's so clear to me now, thanks!)

Oh! Oh! Do declare this irrelevant again and this time try to toss in a hint of 'I'm better than you' while doing so!

Edit: Did you pop my smite cherry? You sly dog, you.

I brushed off your reply because it had nothing serious in it. Also, my post didn't have an utopian ideals in it. If you want those the judge is the man you're seeking. ;)

I don't like or respect religion, especially when people use it to back up an argument. You can't use something no proof behind it to prove something.

I was expressing my opinion on the soul mate. I'm a bigtime science nerd, and I'm an atheist, so I referenced a scientific topic with proof behind it to back up my belief.

What I said about global unity is true. It isn't perfect, but we are constantly working towards that goal. People aren't enslaving each other anymore. We now have the UN which at least allows people to communicate, even if it doesn't always have as great an effect as desired. The American workplace has antidiscriminatory policies, and there hasn't been a single major war in 60 years, just small skirmishes between 2-3 countries.

My last one, I used an obvious known statement to back up my opinion. Human worth was being questioned, so I gave my opinion and then said why.

And yes, I did smite you for such a stupid response to my serious one. I'm guessing you returned the favour.

If you believe that the purpose or function of the UN is anything other thant the fleecing of the USA, you need to do some more homework.

The U.N. wouldn't have France China and Russia on the security councel if it was only about fleecing the U.S. Not to mention it puts as many mandates against the U.S. as if does for the U.S. The U.S. just chooses to ignore many of them.

The IMF is the main international agent working for the U.S.

Now the U.N. does favour more powerful nations, but it isn't in U.S.'s backpocket as you claimed.

Okay, if the U.N. is nothing but a U.S. puppet then how come they condemned Iraq, which is by far the bigest U.S. undertaking since the nuclear arms race 10 years earlier.

People aren't enslaving each other anymore.

But we still have a system of government that benefits those who have and punishes those who have not.

There are still dictatorships and tyrranical rulers.

There are still racists, biggots, etc...

There are still those that would try and silence opposition, the internet included.

We don't have an explicit system of slavery, but don't let that fool you.

My point is things are getting better. Rome wasn't built in a day, as they say. Change takes time, but things are changing to make the world more fair and accepting. Point being, we aren't putting people on boats anymore and using them like we use machines today. People are becoming more tolerant, I didn't say all is well with the world.

Tell me how I should scientifically measure human worth.

By what that person, can and has accomplished that have caused humanity to move forward towards a more ideal world, and I'm not only refering to money here.

I feel so hated that you're putting him in the same catagory as me. :( Why the h8 cat?

But anyway, I basically just think of it like this. If someone contributes something to society, whether it be working, taking care of children, doing charity, cleaning up the neighborhood, or even giving self help seminars and what not, or preaching anything, then they are a valuable person, and therefore worthy of living.

Those who harbor only hate and violence and wish to destroy instead of building aren't worth it. Others that aren't worth it are the people who are apathetic to life and just drift through life as well as the people who can't do anything to contribute to society.
