The Secret
« on: April 17, 2009, 02:28:12 PM »

So I have really been trying to get over some of my insecurities now that I can admit that I have some. I found The Secret (http://www.thesecret.tv/) to be a very helpful tool for this but I wanted to see if anyone had any opinions or thoughts on the hole world of visualization, positive thought, and all of the things the secret brings to light.

Thanks ya'll I look forward to reading your posts.

I think it is a whole lot of BS. Still amazes me how much shit people can think up and make money out of it. Attach an "approved by Oprah" label and you're in.

The Secret of The Secret is The Secret itself.

If it works for you, what difference does it make what we think about it?

I used The Secret to will the UNIVERSE to prevent anyone else from using The Secret to get what they want, so it probably won't work for you.

I sometimes wish I were feeble-minded, that way I could benefit from placebos as seen on TV products.

I'm just trying to figure out what this has to do with homework.  Maybe the homework is to recruit other suckers?

I too watched "The Secret".  Then I researched it.  Let me give you a little background on that flick.  It has been being used for years in Detention Centers, Juvenile Detention Centers, and Prisons as a way to control inmates.  I have a friend who works at a prison, they show this movie a few times a year there.

Seems like it's a little reverse psychology to me.  But hey, if it helps your attitude and helps you progress in life, more power to ya!  Not everything is for everyone.  The order of things would be complete chaos if the sea of sameness applied to everyone.  To each their own I say!   :-P

The unfortunate thing is that the basic premise that The Secret so bluntly distorts, in my view, is correct. I am not going to try and convince anyone but I do believe visualization works. It's just that you cannot visualize a bright red sports car and expect it delivered the next morning. You can however visualize in a broader context: if you spend enough time at it, you might just be more aware when an opportunity arises that in turn could lead to the desired outcome. It takes a quantum jump in your mind, pun intended. There is a link with quantum physics as well, a subject matter that is so bizarre that it might actually help to become more open minded if you started reading up on that before you take up visualization.

The Secret was an interesting starting point for me. Who knows, it might be for you as well.
