Solution needed, any idea's welcome :)

Hi there, I've been asked to produce a solution to the following problem we've been having at work. Any suggestions people have would be appreciated  :lol:

Basically, we're looking at some sort of cloud/virtual pc, we have some users in the building who require access to some social networking sites and we don't want to allow the access via our network. We'd be looking for them to be able to connect to a seperate console outwith our internal network to view these websites.

If I've not given enough information, please do just let me know and I'll supply more.

Thanks in advance to anyone with any ideas  :-)

Because we don't want them accessing the likes of twitter/bebo/facebook as the users just pick up virus's and their systems have to be rebuilt.

They pick up virus's as most users pick up virus, they click on links etc they shouldn't but they don't know any different. Our anti-virus has since been improved as the old one wasn't detecting the virus's quickly enough. But now there's a new company policy in place which prohibits social networking sites anyway.

Well, your solution is clear.

I love root cause analysis.  It always points you in the right direction for the most effective and efficient means of rectifying a problem.

Hire smarter people.

That's almost always the root cause.


Seriously, though, I think they just need a smarter IT guy or two.

And a little gall- just think: you go to a random group of strangers and skip introducing yourself or making any kind of relationships, then immediately pose a problem and expect them to give you a highly intelligent and possibly technical recommendation without any kind of harassment, and then you go away satisfied? I don't think you have a very good grasp of human social dynamics, my uber friend.

You're not a moron- your first post makes that evident. Try doing some research and finding your own answers- and if you just want to have some friendly geeky conversations here, make an intro thread and tell us a little about yourself that doesn't immediately put us under the pressure of finding an answer to whatever question it is your boss pays you to find on your own. Either that or offer to pay us to give you an answer- that is how capitalism works, after all.

Edit: also, you defy your title's premise with your responses- you did say "any idea's welcome :)", you did not limit which ideas would be welcome by stating "any good idea's welcome :)" or even "any relevant idea's welcome :)". You haven't really welcomed any of the ideas posed. Jerk. :-P
