**This thread has been split off from  BSoD thread **

And since you're blowing it away and starting from scratch, now would be a good time to give something different a try.

No registry cleaners, no BSODs, no viruses, no adware, just a usable computer.
Alright, I'll bite. But what kind of PDA/smartphone support would I have? I'm probably switching to Crackberry in a few weeks, so I don't necessarily need Windows anymore...

I'd seriously look into smartphones by Palm before you decide to go with a Blackberry if it's an option with your carrier. I recently bought a Palm Treo 755p and am in love with it. I'm not sure of their Mac / Linux support when it comes to syncing it with a computer, though.

No Can-Do, homie. Going to switch back to Verizon so I can save some change on calling my lady friend, mobile-to-mobile texting and calling, y'know. Of their selections, I'm most pleased with the consistency and reliability of the Blackberry lineup, more particularly the Tour. I'd love to look at the Palm Pre, if it were available, but Sprint's got it locked up for now, so that's that.

What's the OS on Treo 755p?

Yeah, I've enjoyed my Samsung Blackjack (first gen), updated it to WinMo 6 a month or so ago, but the hardware's kinda wearing out- speaker's losing volume, the keys respond funny sometimes, and it occasionally gets hung up for no apparent reason. I want to keep the functionalities I've gotten used to, but go to another operating system; I've seen a lot of reviews that have suggested that WinMo's really on the low end of overall user experience, and I'd like to expand my experience so I can make my own judgment.

 I can believe that.

From what I understand, it's one of the last phones put out by Palm to use their Palm OS.

I can also agree on the comment about Windows Mobile based phones sucking wind. Stay away whenever possible.

I have no idea; I have a smartphone, but it's a Samsung Instinct, and I don't have any need to sync it with anything other than my Google stuff.

I want a cool pocket computer phone, but can't justify it since I never talk on my cell phone or text.  In fact, Enrique and I have two different carriers and it doesn't ever make a difference b/c we just never use up that many minutes (on our minimal plans).

So a smartphone would cost me like $45 more dollars a month and I'd still never use the cell phone part of it.

Detta, honestly I got my blackjack as a sort of lark. I had some extra cash & I was tired of my existing carrier, so - just did it. Now, however, having explored some of the other features (calendar, email, mobile apps), I'm not sure I could do without it. - especially depend on my outlook synchronization to keep contacts and calendar information straight- if I didn't have this thing reminding me to get a check cut for ashland, they'd never see their money (okay, it'd take a lot longer, maybe not "never"). It's simple things like that that I'd never be able to keep up with if I didn't have this little electronic crutch holding my memory up.

Winmo is a joke. Microsoft is incapable of making compact software. that's why there's no Xbox handheld.

Winmo 6.1 for now.  I'm planning on running android from my sd card, though.  At least to try it out.

I've heard negative things about the HTC Touch Pro, then again the person that I mainly heard it from wasn't exactly the smartest. Let me know how Andriod works out on that, I'm curious.
