I CAN'T BELIVE LOST WILL ONLY HAVE 6 SEASONS AND WILL END NEXT YEAR?

I never watched Lost, except for a few episodes. thought it was stupid.

I love Lost, but the producers told us even before season 3 was over that Lost would only be 6 seasons long. This allowed them to start removing the padding episodes that we saw in season 2 and 3 and focus on tightening up the story. They have said in interview that they wanted to make a huge story with a defined beginning, middle and end, and you just can't do that if you don't know when the end is gonna be.

I like the fact that it will be ending, and if the producers are to be believed, the ending will not be some "wake up from the dream" type ending, and that all the questions will be answered.

I'm really, really enjoying Lost, but only because I'm watching it with my son, in order, from the begginning, for free, at the rate of 2 episodes a night.

Any other way would not work for me. I don't think it could sustain my interest if I had to wait a week between episodes, and months between seasons.

We're towards the end of Season 3 as of last night. We're watching it via my son's Xbox on Netflix instant play, which is no worse -- and often better -- than DVDs. The instant play menu is limited, compared to the entire Netflix library, but they have some amazingly cool stuff available for viewing. Like, for instance, Lost through Season 4.

We will finish Season 4, then wait for Season 5 to appear in the intant play library. I'm not watching it any other way.

It is one of the best-written tv series ever, with highly engaging -- even lovable -- characters, a million twists and turns, very high geek factor, plenty of cheesecake and beefcake, good production values. It does not insult one's intelligence or dumb down content.

But: you have to watch it from the beginning, in order. Catching an episode here and there will be meaningless. I can't think of another show that I've seen in which Season 3 plot lines were foreshadowed in Season 1.

I would actually compare Lost to the canonical Prisoner series.

We'll see. They've shown amazing creativity so far (amazing for mainstream tv). There's a lot to explain.

I have the benefit of watching with my eagle-eyed son. While watching the season 1 episode when Walt is yanked off the raft and the sharks are circling around, my son suddenly stopped, rewound and still-framed a shot, and there clear as day, tatooed on the side of one of the sharks was some kind of logo. Several episodes later we learn about the Dharma project and recognized the logo; then later yet we learn that the Dharma Project included a menagerie -- and we still don't know why, except that they were apparently sending polar bears back in time, whose fossils are now being found in Tunisia. That's some pretty good shit there.

Any series that names its characters after philosophers and scientists, and explores philosophical concepts deserves to be at least looked at -- but again, you have to watch from episode 1, in order -- otherwise it's meaningless. If you're not watching it, I suggest you wait for the full series to be released on DVD in, I would guess, 2011.

And also, it's at times wickedly funny, and at times sweet, and at times moving. That scene where Hurley gets the van going was all three.

Unfortunetly those really heart warming episodes become even more rare as you get into the 4th and 5th seasons. I'm not saying the show isn't just as awesome, the last episode of season 5 had me going from cheering to almost crying, both things which I hardly ever do to any entertainment medium. But episodes like that Hurley one are really what makes the entire story worth watching.

Too bad :\ Lost is indeed an awesome show. But at least they will give it a nice and proper ending, I hope!

You have less than a month to power through 5 seasons, but you can do it. It's actually best watched quickly. Five hours a day should do it.

Season 6 is supposed to start Feb 2, but our President might buy you some time if he schedules the State of the Union address on that day.
