Title: This is rich.
Post by: Vespertine on March 09, 2004, 10:48:17 PM
So, when I was corresponding with Judge about becoming a writer here, I was full of ideas for articles.  Now that I'm here and trying to get started on my first article, I'm completely stuck.  Yup, that's right, writer's block.  I would greatly appreciate any ideas you guys have, or pointers on how to become unstuck.  On a different note, are there subjects that are taboo for the main page?

Rants are always an easy start. People constantly bitch about everything.

Or you can do the Seinfeld approach and look at some common behaviors and point out how ridiculous they are.

Politics - what's going on in a state, in a country, in the world

Science - the miracle pill that quenches your thirst (take it with 7 glasses of water)

Reviews - software, games, books, movies or other products

Educational - Stuff that your are expert about and what to share

Inspirational - stuff that fascianate you explain what and why or discuss a topic of interest

There's so many things you can write about. The purpose can be to entertain, to inform, to generate discussions/debates in the forum. It's not because it's on the geekery that it has to be geeky. Write about anything and everything.

Things that are taboo? Nothing really. Just remember there's kids looking at these pages so don't go sticking pr0n pics and stuff of that nature on the main page. Other than that, you have carte blanche.

I like to blather anything that comes to mind and then save that as a final draft.

Some of my best articles have been pulled directly out of my ass.

...

Unpleasant.

I mostly write rants here, and those are usually inspired by one of two things:

1)  Whatever I happen to be thinking about on my way to work
2)  Stupid things that happen to me AT work.

That's right.  If I didn't work, I probably wouldn't be nearly as inspired to write rants.

But that can be applied to anyone, I think.
