Title: We don't exist any more
Post by: BizB on July 28, 2008, 09:32:09 AM
The latest greatest challenger to Google, a site named cuil.com (pronounced "cool"), went live today.

Unfortunately, a cool cuil search was unable to locate geekforum.org when I searched for "homoerotic A-Team fan fiction".  There was hope, though.  The search didn't turn up any of our competitors, either.  I was fairly (and justly) disappointed until I searched for "geek forum" and that too failed to return geekforum.org.  As such, I concluded that this search engine may not yet be ready for prime time.

I often wonder about some search engines that are that borked when it comes to basic stuff.  Ask.com (http://www.ask.com) returns baffling results most of the time when I've tried it (baffling compared to most other search engines, that is).  I don't understand how anyone can use it as their main search engine when it can't find even basic stuff most of the time.

The first search I tried on cuil gave me this error

No results because of high load...
Due to excessive load, our servers didn't return results. Please try your search again.

Is it just me or is any search engine created to 'rival' Google destined to fail because of lack of financial resources or internet tubes.
