Okay, so I just randomly felt like clarifying. I don't think all the gore movies out there are crappy. I know there are some good ones out there. I just don't like them recently because they all look the same to me

I have this room spray that I bought awhile back.
There's a misuse of the word there on some text on the bottle and it was bugging me a little bit after I got it. Oh well, I still like the product all the same.
Here's the text

"Stale rooms and cars become nicer to be in when there filled with a fresh, light scent. Or spritz on sheets and blankets. Renews potpourri, too"

at least it smells good, like wildflowers  :-)

Writer's Block / a poem
« on: January 18, 2009, 09:43:29 PM »
this poem is open to criticism and comments and other stuff... and I know it's kind of bad.
But, I expect you'll all love it ardently of course  :w:
about the colors...um...yeah. I had fun with them.....

I happened upon far away place
a place I'd never been before
the people there were indeed quite strange
and traveled in packs of four.

Yes, It was a very interesting place
and I couldn't believe what I was seeing
but I was lost and couldn't find my way
so I was stuck there for the time being.

Some people had orange skin,
and eyes that were empty and wide.
Others had multi-colored arms
that grew according to the tide.

Some people had green skin and tails
and were nearly ten feet tall
others had purple skin with scales
but were actually rather small

I saw a robot walking around
with a device that was rather neat,
and a hobo man who had feet instead of hands
and hands instead of feet.

I know my story is very strange
but honestly, it's true
so make sure not to get lost
or else this might happen to you.

Anarchy / Re: 50 Concerts in 2009
« on: January 18, 2009, 08:46:35 PM »
woooo! I'm actually going to a concert in February, it's a slipknot concert.
I'm not a cult follower of them or anything, but I like them. I'm excited to be going to a concert!
I'm not getting near the moshpit, though...I can just have my own little mosh party with the few people I'm going with.

There's this local place in my town that has lots of shows with local bands of all genres, but I wouldn't personally call them concerts. But since it's the same concept it pretty much counts.
I can't really explain the difference between concerts and shows, but there's a difference  :-)

kit, I agree with you on the point that most recent horror films are crap, and that the genre has been going steadily downhill.  What I don't agree with, however, is that gory movies without much of a plot are all bad.  The Evil Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I Spit On Your Grave, and Cannibal Holocaust are a few classic horror films that are lacking in the plot department (yet are full of gore) that have achieved cult status.  Although they don't have much of a plot, they do have some awesome, truly likable characters, great cinematography, moments of suspense and, yes, a fsckton of gore.  Gore is often essential, and can be a truly great thing.

Yeah, I understand, since some people are into gory movies. It's just been a very.... common trend to make them lately. But sometimes when they have nice things like what you mentioned, it makes them better.

What's up with the colored text?   :-P

I just like using color to mix things up a bit

I enjoy a good psychological thriller because it makes me think, and there is a special place in my heart for stalker films... because I know I will have a good nightmare after watching it. However, gore movies don't impress me. Neither do modern-day zombies films. There was something horrifically wonderful about the slow, stalkerish appeal of the original zombie.

On that note, modern day sci-fi movies are also lacking in their ability to bring aliens to earth and inspire the imagination. That damn science is getting in the way of all the good fiction.

Yeah! I agree with all of that.

Regarding the zombies, I think old zombie movies are better...even if the graphics aren't amazing.

I think an example of a good alien movie would be like close encounters of the 3rd kind. But it seems these days all people try to get across is that aliens are mean and go from there. That's not even fair. Aliens are probably out there making movies about us and giving humans a bad name too. haha...I should draw a comic of that sometime  :-D

Speaking of Sci-fi...I think that the sci-fi channel doesn't play good movies anymore. maybe once in awhile they do but otherwise, no   :-(
it's usually about dumb people dying because they're dumb....or about human-eating bats or an angry bigfoot or maybe giant killer spiders. Or just unfair movies giving normal things a bad name.

so I wish sci-fi played good movies more often. A few summers ago, I would always stay up till dawn watching movies on sci-fi. I actually saw a good zombie movie on there that was made maybe in the 90's... it wasn't super graphi-fied or anything. I have no idea what it was called, it might be popular but maybe not. But the main character was a guy and I think he was like really laid back about the whole zombie invasion, where as today everything is over dramatized to make you scared. grrr.

there are still some good phsycological movies being made out there, though.

kit, don't take this as an insult; it's not meant that way; but

HOLY FUCKING SHIT you are the Perfect Example of the net effect of Political Correctness.
I'm reading your post thinking, "Come ON, girl; grow a set of balls! Have an opinion; and stop apologizing for existing!"
You seem to be more worried about every other opinion than your own; or offending someone; and that's the strongest theme that jumps out to me when I read your post. You don't have to acknowledge every possible difference of opinion to validate your own. Your opinion is just as important and valid as anyone else's here. :-)

That said; I tend to agree. I'm not a fan of gore or slasher movies at all. I think that genre has confused "shocking" with "scary". The most frightening movies I've ever seen had virtually no blood at all, if any; and usually let you create more fear through suspense. It's usually much scarier when you're not told or shown everything, and have to fill in the blanks yourself.

HAHA! I was just scared of getting flamed because I'm a newbie. I hate getting flamed.
now I feel inclined to edit it now.
plus I was in a pretty benign mood when I wrote that.

edit: I did edit it, and it's better now. because now the post probably isn't as boring and not all virtuous or something. and I made it teal because teal is awsomme.

Entertainment / modern day "horror" movies
« on: January 15, 2009, 10:05:17 PM »
I don't think there are any other recent threads with topics similar to this one.

There might be people in this forum who go to movie theatres to watch movies like "The Stranger" or "The Killer" or "The Shit-Eating-Scary guy", but personally I hate scary movies today. I mean, they all start with "The" and usually end with a singular or plural noun. It sounds like quite a perplexing notion. not. They don't all do that, but it's kind of a noticeable trend.
They aren't even scary or horrific anymore, just gory and pointless. They're like numbing our "fear" emotion. either that or feeding it. Like, desensitizing us so that we're all gore-movie eating zoommbbiies.
Some of them still may have plot lines, but if they do, the gore/ blood probably dominates more than the plot line does. I don't personally know since I don't go to see them, but that's just my guess. In the commercials, they all look the same to me.
Maybe this has to do with how all Americans seem to want is more and more things to fear. I mean, fear is all over the media! It's true. Fear is all over the news, and if we can't find anything to fear, then we make something to fear just so we can have something to feed off of. The media DOES over exaggerate fear sometimes.

Anyway, what ever happened to real, actual science fiction or horror, when the story was more important than showing off fancy graphics? I'm not saying graphics are bad, but in my eyes they aren't as important as the story....
I have a story! when I was in middle school, the only movies I was used to were either non-horror movies or old fashioned horror. Apparently, though, I was almost the only one. I mean, I was probably the only kid in my grade who wasn't allowed to see PG-13 movies.  :-P
In around 6th or 7th grade I think, I remember at one point I went to a friend's house and she happened to want to watch "I know what you did last summer". I was reluctant to watch it at first but she eventually talked me into it..... and so after about 45 minutes into the movie, after some guy got stabbed in the throat, I freaked out and made her turn it off because I was sensitive and couldn't watch any more. I was one of those people who could kind of feel it happening...and I also hated the concept of dying by any sort of throat wound for some reason. So my modern-day-scary-movie virginity was taken that night. Oh, and she also talked me into watching the rest of it because she was a blood-thirsty tyrant. That movie isn't even that bad compared to some of the stuff they are making in the present moment.

I guess my point is that modern day gore movies are stupid.
I'm also not saying that every new scary movie out there is terrible, but still.

edit: I edited it. yayyy I changed the color!

yeah, I think it's just creepy when I see a girl who's really muscular

when girls are capable of getting extremely muscular like that, I think it's because she has more testosterone in her genetics than the average female. some girls are actually born with that...and then some are not. yeah
but in my opinion, it looks pretty bad....
