Political Opinions / Re: Bin Laden is Dead
« on: May 03, 2011, 07:59:42 PM »
I appears that my opinion on the event it self are already well represented by pbsaurus, ivan and TheJudge.

I imagine that his death brings closure to a lot of people's life, though I think that people who actually fell better about a loss of a loved one because of this are rather shallow minded.

Homework Help / Re: Hexagonal Number Puzzle
« on: February 26, 2011, 12:03:27 PM »

With the given numbers, you can conclude that the total (t) is equal to 38.
3+7+5+8+15=t
t=38

To find the bottom diagonal you can use this.
16+x+15=t
knowing that t=38...
16+x+15=38
x=7
7 is already used  :|

to find the top diagonal you can use this
10+x+3=t
knowing that t=38...
10+x+3=38
x=25
That doesn't make sense at all :x.

As well as a few other problems further down the line.

I'd have to conclude that either the directions are wrong/unclear or the numbers are wrong.

Homework Help / Hexagonal Number Puzzle
« on: February 25, 2011, 09:16:28 PM »

"Place the numbers 1-19 in the hexagon so that each vertical and diagonal line have the same total."

Me and a colleague where discussing this puzzle and was debating how the instruction should be interpreted. We came up with three potental ways to solve the puzzle.

1. the number 1-19 can be repeated, all sides totaling to 38. (can't be solved this way.)
2. the numbers 1-19 can not be repeated, all sides totaling to 38. (can't be solved this way.)
3.  the numbers 1-19 can not be repeated. totals add up with the corresponding number of hexes vertical or diagonal.

We discussed it for 15 or 20 minutes. As unlikely the interpretation of my colleague is. It's more solvable than the other ways. Unfortunately I don't have the name, only the first image (I drew it in MS paint) and the instructions quoted above. If anyone has any ideas or leads to the solution I'd love to hear it.

Welcome! I will eat this bait right up.

You haven't read the right novels if they all bore you.
Mac OS and Linux can run software too! What do you think they're doing if not that?
Chrome has extensions which are like add-ons but called a different thing.
Google doesn't know my favourite fetish yet because there isn't a name for it.

I don't hate all novels, and I'm sure I'm not reading the right ones. I'd say that classics are probably the best I have read.

I am aware that OS X and Linux can run software, please don't take me so literally  :-P. I just can't see myself running either of those as my primary OS without using Virtualbox on the side.

I suppose I prejudged Chrome, I tried it early on and it was somewhat lacking at the time, I'll give it a second chance :-D.

Hello,

Are you autistic? Oh what a silly thing of me to ask. We're all autistic on teh internetz.

I haven't been diagnosed with autism. I prefer being alone and don't make much eye contact, but I don't have anxiety.

I actually have a friend who is autistic, they have it tough.

Entertainment / Re: Sound that keeps cockroach away.

The effectiveness of subsonic pest repellents are questionable, but you can buy them online or at a supermarket. Be sure to do you research so you aren't duped by some half-assed chunk of plastic. Make sure you place it in the open because the acoustics of sound change as they bounce of furniture and walls, rendering it infective.

I recommend doing the following.

One part powdered (not granular) boric acid (go to a pharmacy or drug store)
One part white flour
One part granulated white sugar

Place in the back of your cabinets, under the fridge and anywhere else that they might be crawling around. Clean and replace as needed. It will most likely solve your problem in a month or two.

I hope that your problems get better  :-).

The last good thing written in C was Franz Schubert's Symphony Number 9.

A programing and a music quote in one :-D.

New Geeks on the Block / Hello geekforum.org
« on: February 21, 2011, 09:31:56 PM »
I'm a 20 year old male.
In my leisure time I enjoy anime & visual novels, computer games and tabletop RPGs.

I am not much of a reader. I enjoy reading the newspaper and non-fiction, but novels tend to bore me.
I am currently playing League of Legends and Minecraft.
I currently am the dungeon master for a dungeons and dragons game.
If I had to say, I would be a Windows guy, but only because it can actually run software.
Firefox is better than Chrome because it as add-ons. I love my add-ons.
Google know where you live and all your favourite fetishes.
I don't watch much live action stuff, however I do love Firefly and it had probably ruined the sci-fi genre for me.
Last weekend I decided to wipe my hard drive and install a different OS, and did it in the same day. I tend to be impromptu like that.

Nice to meet you :-D.
