Where to take my next step?

now that i am secure in my microsoftness, i am ready to brach out into new areas of computing. only i dont know where to go with it. once i get back to the states i am going to be getting another comp for my new project. but i dont know wheather to go with a linux box and learn that, or go with an apple box and learn that.

The learning curve will be quite a bit steeper with the Linux approach, but you'll come out of it knowing a lot more about your computer than if you go with a Mac.

That said, I'm still kind of drooling over the Mac Minis.  I saw one yesterday in person and they're pretty slick, especially for the price.
