RSS Feeds
« on: July 09, 2007, 10:54:39 PM »

It occurred to me the other day that I don't actually know what's going on in the world because I don't watch TV, and I don't check up on news sites anymore like I used to.

That being said, it hit me that I could post popular RSS feeds on the header or somewhere less obtrusive on the forums this way I can kill two birds with one stone. I can check up on the forums and make sure they haven't been flooded because someone left the stupid faucet running, and I can also check up on the latest War in Iraq headlines.

So my questions to you guys are:

Do you think this is a worth while addition to the forums?

AND

Do any of you have any good RSS feeds that they already utilize and have found to be useful and reliable?

I think an RSS feed would be great because in all honesty I cant stand news sites and the only thing i watch on tv is movies and cartoons.

Fine with me as long as it isn't one that thinks Paris, Britney, or Lindseys' every move is news.

You got a point there. I honesty don't think anyone on this cares about them, but if I'm wrong my bad.

Lots of people must care for them, otherwise it wouldn't be news

I think i'd like a news feed on the forum, but i don't have any to offer, the ones i use usualy are not in english.

I'll see if I can come up with a good free RSS feed you can use for national/world news. I wonder if Google News has RSS feeds?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

Now all I need is a script to pull from these feeds. I was expecting this to be really ridiciously easy. Then I forgot about the part of a script being required to pull data from the lists.

Do you want to do something similar to what this site does?
http://www.frostyrider.com/boards/

Try this puppy:http://www.dynawebdesigns.com/dynamic/xml/rsspal.php
It uses javascript so it should be fairly easy to intergrate.

There is also the alternate option of having a bot that creates posts within the forum based on the RSS feeds you setup.
