Any recommendation for TV series to follow?
« on: December 12, 2008, 07:32:19 PM »

The Holiday season is near... and I'm finally going to have some time to catch up on TV shows. I've just started watching "Lost" and "Battlestar Galatica" and they are freakin' awesome!!! (i know i know... i am soooo behind)

I want to start on another TV series... any recommendations? and why?

Thanx in advance!  :-D

...say BizB, I take it you've noticed the ''restructuring" of SurfTheChannel by now? Specifically the "channels"; where you USED TO be able to find gems in a turdpile - now is totally confuckedupfuscated. It was choices between Movies, TV, Documentaries (<--My favourite... gone now), Music, ETC..
Now it's some fucked up looking facebook/myspace type choices.

College and Education, Culture & Style, Life & Style, People & Family, Tech & Gaming (so...that's NOT the same thing?), Webcams and Vlogs...

W7F? Where are my documentaries? Where is Family Guy? The link pages have everything from Jerome's Mom's first webcam email to stupid crap like "American Sewing Expo, T-Shirt + Flannel" (Im not kidding), "Animation Illusion Explained", and "Annie's Buzzcut".
Do you still go there for links? How do you find th-  shit how do you BROWSE the site? With all the stupid crap on there it's like searching the New York sewer system in hopes of finding that gold chain she dropped in the storm drain.
Anyway; I've started going straight to GoogleVideo and YouTube; 90% of the time you can actually find something worth watching there BEFORE you finish eating.

The channel button at the top will show you film/movies then on that page they have links to genre.  Documentaries and the like are there.

From the channel button there is also Television which is where you click on F and it will take you to family guy.

Yeah, the genre links are right below the main menu strip once you've selected movies.   I really like the new layout.  When I wanted to watch Dexter this morning, I clicked Channels then Television, then "D", then Dexter.

My only complaint lately is the lack of good free hosting of said shows.  Lots of stuff is being stored on megavideo and they limit the number of minutes you can watch for free.

Aha. See, I was searching all through "Education" and "Tech & Gaming" for stuff like NOVA, BBC Documentaries, NatGeo, astronomy/space/etc.  So it's under Film/Movies. Makes sense if you turn your head right. I was looking from an entirely the wrong way. With that in mind; I'll re-evaluate it (now knowing how to get around).

Lots of stuff is being stored on megavideo and they limit the number of minutes you can watch for free.
How do they keep track? Surely not just a simple cookie, which can be easily deleted/edited? IP, maybe? What about proxies or simply resetting your dsl modem (to get a different IP)?

Thanks guys for the boobtube watching lesson, heh.

Though mostly far fetched, whenever House is on TBS (re-runs) I always find myself wanting to watch the entire episode.

bananaskittles: so... I assume you recommend "The Office?"  :-P Honestly, I've only seen couple of episodes just because I didn't have the time. Since I have more time now, I'll definitely watch it. thanx!

Chris: Ooohh! I love House!!! well, at least the first season. I used to watch it to help me study for the Dental Board exams. As matter of fact, I know I answered one of the questions right thanx to House. I haven't seen House since the 1st season. Maybe i should go pick it up again. thanx!

Try the original British version. Ricky Gervais is brilliant. He's involved with the American version, and a lot of the American first-season eps are variations of British version eps.

The British version is much darker, eminently more cringeful and discomforting. And there's only 24 episodes plus a Christmas Special.

When you're done with that, start on I Love Lucy.

...I Love Lucy.

Best show ever.

I've been watching episodes of Eleventh Hour over the weekend. I actually enjoy it, it's sort of a 'House' meets 'CSI' kind of thing.

The Big Bang Theory, Coupling (BBC), Doctor Who (BBC), and Red Dwarf (BBC).

Well Coupling and Red Dwarf are a bit...over...but that won't stop you watching them.

How It's Made on the Science Channel.  Especially the episodes where Brooks Moore is the narrator.  Not really something you can "follow," but it's fascinating.

BBC's Torchwood is a pretty neat Dr. Who spin-off, but for some reason there's a lot of gay/Lebanese subplots (not that there's anything wrong with that).  It's pretty overwhelming at times, but still a good show.

Dexter.  Ooooh, yeah.

My favourite show on TV for the past couple of years has been Burn Notice.

It's a darkly comedic spy drama that stars Bruce Campbell as one of the main characters.

Nuff said.

Along the lines of Discovery Channel...

I love Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs, but they're not really shows you "follow."

I'm also a recently afflicted House M.D. addict.

A set of all three seasons of Arrested Development is on sale at Amazon for like $28 or something.  That's the one I'd recommend.  And Strangers with Candy.
