I'm a wannabe geek.  Help me understand how checksums work...please.

That doesn't help me unfortunatly.  The numbers are supposed to give me some sort of code or coordinates.

This is for a geocaching clue that my neice wants her and I to complete.  She asked me for help her with it and I have no clue.
