I hate Ike.
« on: September 16, 2008, 06:45:11 AM »

I know the damage it did down south.  In his track you expect to get rain and thunderstorms even up here in Kentucky.  But Sunday really made a mess around here.  A quarter of a million people without power, trees down everywhere, business/schools closed, gas stations with gas in short supply, plus we sent 250 of our utility workers south on Saturday.  They are now due back today.

We were lucky and finally got power back last night about 9 PM, about 32 hours after it went out.  Some people will be waiting 7 to 14 days with the latest estimates.

I went to our shop yesterday morning and got a generator.  I was able to cool our fridge down along with three other neighbors taking turns with it.  I got to spend yesterday afternoon cleaning up all the limbs, leaves, and debris scattered in the yard.

We had 50 MPH winds sustained for over and hour with gusts they say from 75 to 85, depending on who you listen to.

Aren't these things supposed to slow down over land?  I'm not sure of the distance as the crow flies but driving to my sisters place in Lake Charles LA is just under 1000 miles.  Sheesh.

Anyone else in his path have this kind of a wind event?

Edit:
With everything as screwed up as it is at least they did get the power back up at Valhalla golf club for the Ryder cup to go off without a hitch.

Ain't heard a peep down here. A few clouds here and there, but not even a lot of rain.
 No wind to speak of.

Im glad we didnt get any strong winds; I've got a couple trees I need to take down. One is dead, and the other is leaning uphill towards the house and is tall enough to do some damage.

Can we trade weather occasionally? I've never had my area ruined by wind before, just snow.

I'm just south of Austin and we didn't get shit here.  They cancelled the Texas game and everything.  The temp has dropped by at least 20 degrees in the last 2 days though.

Cherubim is plural; Genesis 3:24 specifies one flaming sword. Presumably flaming swords were in short supply."

Highways and roads were closed here due to flooding. Even some college campuses were closed (Not mine of course). Nothing real big besides that.

However, my TAC team got a fair share of cases forwarded to our team from Houston TAC teams because they were evacuated.

We got nothing from Ike.  Although I hate him anyway.

Hannah wrecked nascar.

I think it was Gustav that I waved to while I was in Puerto Rico.  Then I came home and saw him again the following week!

We're seeing some rain from it here. :P Fortunately because the storms are crossing the mountains it's just rain, no wind. There are moments when you love the Appalachians (for being a storm barrier for those nasty ones that come up from the inside of the Gulf). Thanks for taking the beating man.  :-D

The Great Lakes areas suffered flooding upward of eight feet. This isn't much compared to a hurricane swell, I'm aware, but given the sheer distance from the event this is both impressive and distressing. We don't send our weather into your neighborhood, flooding your crawlspaces and washing away your park benches.
Think about that, Florida.
Louisiana.
Texas.

Missouri got a tonne of rain but no major winds.  I think they said we got 10" over the weekend.

I bet my girlfriend wishes she could say the same.
