I'm giving serious contemplation to buying this.

Anyone have any zealous opinions on LCD monitors?

I have to say that I prefer CRTs.  At the close range that's required for 'puter screen viewing, I find the LCD's display to be a bit less crisp.  I have no idea whether my belief is supported by known technology constraints/issues, but it's been my experience.

I have an HP of that size at work and I am happy with it. Must say that I connected it through DVI and that is a lot better then standard.

The wife bought this one back in November.

http://reviews.cnet.com/Westinghouse_LCM_19w4_flat_panel_display_TFT_19/4505-3174_7-31851239.html

I love it.  The brightness and picture are better than a CRT.  Or at least the 20 inch I have hooked to the old box.

I think she only gave 170 on sale at BestBuy.  I don't have excellent vision anymore, but I'm sitting with my feet even with the front of the panel and my legs stretched out, and I can read everything on the screen.  But I have the resolution down to 1024x768.

Oh and the LCD on the laptop hurts my wife's eyes for some reason.  But this one doesn't and is much brighter than the laptop.

We bought one of them 19 inchers for my dad for Christmas.  That thing is nice.  I'd love one but...it's not in the cards.

I've heard the CRTs are better if you do detailed graphics work; other than that (ie., for general use) I think the LCDs have more "pros".
Also; check on their 'dead pixel' policy. I've read a few times about someone having an LCD that came from the factory with a significant amoutn of dead pixels; but the manufacturer wouldn't swap it due to their so-called "dead pixel" policy. I think there has to be so many per square inch or something like that. I just remember those people being REALLY PISSED and thinking 'bout how bad they got screw3d.

Actually, it appears that the 20" Samsung of that line (the 206BW, the one that I linked above) is the Samsung sweet spot.  The 22" has the same number of pixels as the 20".

FYI, I just ordered one of the 20" models.  I went to my local Circuit City and checked one out in person and read a good number of reviews, so I think it was a good buy.  We'll find out once it arrives.

I'm sticking with my dirt cheap CRTs, now that they're obsolete I don't have to be careful with them anymore. Worst case scenario, one breaks and I have to make a trip to the local garage sale and shell out five bucks.

It arrived yesterday and I set it up.

After adding in the Horizsync and VertRefresh values to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf and adding in the new mode for 1650x1080 resolution, it didn't work, so I updated my video driver and voila!  Crystal clear!

This is a great monitor.  I think it was a good buy.
