Anarchy / How many girls did you have in your life?

Anarchy / Best date evah?

I still look for other geeks in my school, but there are very few true geeks out there. I'm talking about the kind that run Linux (Even though I don't myself), or the kind that can build their own computer and try to tweak it so they can get the most out of it.

There are a few in my school that can format a drive and install Windows, and put together a computer with some difficulty, but other than that, there aren't die hard geeks in my school. At least none that I know of.

*Sigh* The world needs more.

About the asking out thing, I guess that's a good idea. I usually just wait for guys to ask me out. I've asked a few guys out, but I'm usually afraid they'll say no or something. That would be horrible. Fear of failure, hm?

Damnit I wish a date could go like that. Instead, I usually end up with some prick who wants to have sex on the first date. Buying computer parts for your girlfriend is really cute. I find that... err... romantic. In a weird sorta way.

*laughs* All the cool geeky guys are probably too afraid to talk to you. You'll probably end up having to ask one of them out unfortunatly.

Yup, I never dated in high school because no one ever asked me out.  I ended up marrying my best friend and never having really dated.

Aww! That's cute, lol. One retarded thing about high school is how everyone thinks people are weird if they go out with a geek. Guys ask me out, but rarely geeks. The sad thing is, there's not a lot of geeks in my high school. I don't hang out with a geeky crowd @ school so they don't really see me as a geek until I talk. I guess that can be intimidating. Every school year I hope for some new geeks. I am the only female grade 9 (now 10) geek in our school. Me and my geek friends keep searching, but no hope. I've dated a geek but there was the problem that he was reeally shy with me. He asked me out again yesterday, so we'll see how this turns out. I need an (even slightly) extroverted geek. Is that an oxymoron? I'm probably hopeless... :(

Bilingual requirements here are a joke. Apparently I have a "B-level" French vocabulary, but I couldn't carry out a conversation to save my life.

How do you find out your level?

Arn't you just 15? You can't drive!

I'm a passenger, but I can still be inside a car and going to Quebec. Every time I go, we get lost.

I understand. It's just very that it's very overwhelming in Quebec and the french don't like me there. There's some pet peeves I have, like George Bush. Some people I just don't like...

Maybe they feel the same way when they come to Ottawa? Perhaps you should try and look at it from their point of view.

No comment about The Shrub though.

We do have a reasonable amount of french. If you drive on the highways, the signs are translated. In order to get MANY jobs around here (every job for the government, tourism, etc) requires you to be bilingual. In Quebec, many times you will have to find someone who speaks english.

I'm upset that they didn't do the signs right in the first place.

Actually they did. A while back the PQ (I think?) got pissy and mandated all the signs be in French only. A number of stores were fined quite heavily for having English signage.

Yes, I remember. There's a reason why I don't like Quebec. But signs like directions and things that are in french only, so you have to trust you have a good map and pray you don't take a wrong turn.

I think the country should be both french and english. We are supposed to be bilingual, that doesn't just mean having french but also having english. I think we should have english/french everywhere and not just english/french and then-BAM!-all french in one province. Sure, they're a french province, but why can't they have translations on the highway signs?!

In principle, that is great. In practice, it's not realistic. New Brunswick for example is official a bilingual province. This means that you are entitled to be served in the language of your choice, english or french. Signs are for the majority in both official language.

It's be great to have the same thing in Quebec. But I don't see this happening in Ontario for example. Municipalities need to determine the official language in their area. I don't think we'll see every sign in Toronto being translated to French anytime soon. It's not reasonable and it's costly.

I'm upset that they didn't do the signs right in the first place.

First, a lot of what you say is true. The signs are mostly french, a lot of them don't even understand english. But when you go over there, you have to addapt to them, not the other way around.

When in Rome, etc.

People from other parts of Italy understand Rome.

I don't know much about him, but I liked Bowling for Columbine. I love the part about Canadian news ("Breaking news: New speedbumps!"), and the bit about open doors in TO.

Is there a rationale behind that?

God Quebec is horrible. You go in the right parts of Quebec and they HATE you for not speaking french. You can't even drive around since it's all in french. There isn't english ANYWHERE 'cause they think they're so special. Then they complain that there isn't enough french in the rest of the country. Well, put some damn english in your province 'cause we've got more french than you have english. For * sake...

A lot of people have had great success running Windows applications (like games) under Linux.

But even if you don't... if all you boot into Windows for are games, does that really justify saying "you just can't do much without Microsoft"?

An operating system that most games are written to run on does not equal "the only OS out there".

Hm, I shall try this. Wish I knew sooner, eh? Does it run everything? I use Windows for other things, too. I find the MSN is better, even though it's not quite necessary. I use Windows for things like my cam program, graphic programs, burning CDs, & computer games. If I'm just going on the net I'll use Linux. Still, you can't do AS much without Microsoft. What's a good Linux FTP program? I always use Windows for FTPing...

Ya, I only use Windows 'cause Linux can't run much yet. Seems you can't do too much without Microsoft. Kinda sad.

I manage quite well with Linux (Slackware 9.1 at the moment) at home.  Email, web browsing, even MORE options for word processing and spreadsheets than Windows has (OpenOffice, AbiWord, StarOffice, KOffice, GNOME Office, just to name a few), MP3s, video...

If you think you "can't do much without Microsoft", then I suspect you have never bothered to try.

Can you run a lot of computer games on it?

I run XP on my primary computer simply because it's the OS that runs the games I wanna play. That's the ONLY reason I still use XP.

I have another computer that's my dedicated Linux box (Slack 9.1 probably soon to be 10) so I can do what I need on either OS.

And yeah, I bought XP too. I buy at least one copy of any OS I run. (Assuming it's not free in the first place. :-)

Ya, they want the whole country to be all french.

That's not true. They just want to be their own country because they feel they are getting screwed by Ottawa big time. Language has nothing to do with it. But they use the langauge as an excuse. They say they are different. They say they are a nation. There' not different. They're not a nation. We're all getting screwed equally by Ottawa. We're all canadians and that's that. They think they can do better on their own. They may be right. But I don't fell this justifies the existence of a party that will ignore the rest of the country and not look at the big picture. That's racism.

Even France doesn't like Quebec. I hate the french in general. I don't hate every french person, but general Quebec citizens piss me off. :x
