Breaking news from the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Charley is gay.

Seriously though, who's next? McGreevey was a shock here in New Jersey, who knows who else is gay and is holding public office. I'm waiting for Bush to come out of the closet.

Good lord, I couldn't care less who's gay and holding office and not telling me about it. I'm not telling my elected officials what I do in my bedroom; why should they have to tell me?

I think Arnold Schwarzenegger would be funny if he were gay.  I hope he comes out of the closet next.

That would be funny.

Last I checked there wasn't a strong correlation between poor job performance and sexual preference.

And I'd be right there to shove him back in. We don't need this riff-raff.

  Nice, very nice.

Personally, I agree with catwritr. What anyone does with anyone else is their business as long as they keep it their business.

If McGreevey stepped down because he is gay that's just dumb, if he stepped down due to the affiar that's understandable.

Well, ok, this freaky..............

I am happily married and yet if I came home and confessed to my wife that I have been having an affair with another man, not only would it destroy my marriage, but think what it would do to my wife mentally.

I'm sure McGreevey's wife, as a woman, is devastated because now she is thinking in her mind that she is less of a woman because she can't satisfy her man enough that he goes out and sleeps with another man.

But also freaky as her standing there while he admits to the world what has happened.

I feel sorry for her for what she is going through. My first wife left me for another man and mentally, it can be devasting.

It wouldn't have been as freaky if he was single or was an out of the closet homosexual. It's freaky to me when your spouse cheats on you with the same sex. It's just my opinion. Nothing more.

Unless it's with another chick, who happens to be a supermodel sex maniac and they want a three way with you. Am I getting warm?

As opposed to feeling like less of a woman because her husband went and slept with another woman? It's all the same. Betraying a monogamous relationship is betrayal, no matter what sex/gender any and all parties are.

I'm really tired of this society's obsession with other people's sexuality.

THANK YOU! I'm sick of it all as well. Everyime I see a magazine in line at the grocery store it's "Who in Hollywood might be gay?" When the TV is on it's usually some claptrap show designed especially centered around somebody's sexual leaning\fetish\whatever and don't get me started about the number of idiotic conversations I overhear at my clubs about the latest gay\bi celebrity du jour.

It's getting to a horrible, horrible point where your sexuality is nothing more than just another trend that can be tossed around and then discarded without any consideration at all. I'm fed up with the whole gay 'culture' of "HAY LOOK AT ME EVERYBODY!" and the over senstivie straight folk who encourage this sort of behavior by making a big production out of it. Nobody (except my boss and one co-worker, both of which I've known for years) knows about that ascpect of my life at work and I intend to keep it that way. It's none of their damn business and I'll thank them kindly not to tell me what they like doing behind closed doors.

But, alas, this soft of stuff sells and brings in big $$$ so I'm afraid it will only get worse. I'm warining you folks out there: I know that a bunch of people (it can be argued that this is the majority) don't like having gay this and gay that shoved in their faces all the time via the media, and it's going to foster resentment and hatred towards gays with an extreme backlash. Plus the knee jerk reaction of "If you think being gay is wrong then you're just a big homophobe!" isn't helping, people. You can't browbeat and intimidate people into thinking the way you want them to. America is a tolerant nation, but to a point. Hell, I don't like the idea of male-female sex, but that doesn't make me a heterophobe, now does it?

I've recieved a bit of flak for my opinions from other gay guys. Heck, I've even been called a damn homophobe. Riiiiiight. Setlle down, everybody, just chill out, and respect each other's right to not have your opinon\'lifestyle' (or whatever the hell the trendy term is these days) forced upon them. Ok, Xolik deep breath now.... **HHHHHMMMMM**

This NJ gov crap has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the man is gay.  It has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that he appointed someone to a very important cabinet level position whom was not qualified, just so they could exchange glances throughout the day.  Further, the man was not even an American citizen.

The timing of his resignation/departure is designed to keep the state out of the presidential race.  If he were to resign NOW, it is likely that the republican mayor of NJ City would run for the spot and bring out the republicans in November.  That would put NJ in play for GWB.

He used "gay" as a shield and, unfortunately, it worked.

While I agree with you that the man in the cabinet position is underqualified, who cares if "he's not even an American citizen"?  Would he have automatically been more qualified if was an American?  Why does the fact that he's from another country make it that much worse?  This kind of thing gets on my nerves just as much as any other kind of bigotry.  One of the beautiful things about this country is that (theoretically) anyone can come here and hold almost any position they want.
[/soapbox]

Also, I definitely think that the media is making this a bigger scandal because of the homosexuality.  This wouldn't have gotten anywhere near this much attention if McGreevey's affair had been with a woman.

Under any other circumstances, I would say that being American wouldn't matter, but this man was put in charge of homeland security in the state of NJ.  Call me crazy, but I believe that the person in charge of securing something should have a vested intrest in same.

You know, I've met an awful lot of naturalized Americans who appreciate the things America stands for an awful lot more than most people I know who were born here.

Your statement was generalizing, ignorant, and downright insulting.

You don't need to be born here to be patriotic.  Or love freedom.  Or have rights.

If anything, going out of one's way to move here and go through the arduous process that's necessary to stay here can indeed say a lot of one's dedication to the things that count.

I agree.  Being born of naturalized parents, I know exactly what you're talking about.  My understanding was, however, that this individual wasn't even a citizen... that he was here on a visa.  If I'm mistaken, it wouldn't be the first time.  If I've insulted, it was unintentional.  If I'm ignorant, I blame... someone else.

Maybe that person is in the process of being naturalized?  One still needs to be here on a visa of some kind even if that's the case.

My point is, you don't know, but you automatically jumped to the conclusion that because this person wasn't a citizen, he automatically didn't care, wasn't concerned, was less capable.

Indeed, he may in fact be totally inept and incapable of doing the job.

But that's not because of his citizenship.  He could be a natural-born American and be incompetent.

There are lots of those.  Trust me.  I just got off the phone with several of them.

As long as the person in question is at least going through the steps to become a citizen, I see no problem with this. Obviously the guy cares about this country enough to learn the language, assimilate into society and had a desire to serve the public. If this was about somebody who came over here less than legally, didn't bother to learn the language and acted openly in the intrests of a foriegn nation instead of our own, then I'd have a big problem with this.

Of course there are plenty of American elected officials who still put the interests of other nations ahead of our own, but that's a realllllly long rant for another time.  :?
