I am feeling a little exposed here.

Norton AV is out of date due to subscription updates

And AVG suddenly costs money... which i lack

Does anyone know where i can get some antivirus software that has FREE updates.

The free edition of AVG doesn't cost money.  That's the one I use when I'm in Windows.

Here is what I use when i fix computers for people its AntiVir and the best part the software is freeware. Also it WORKS, which is really nice. I have have had a lot of luck with it.
