Anyone know any Power Point Tips
« on: September 12, 2002, 04:22:18 PM »

I've gotta make up a short presentation for ICT class and was wondering if there are any simple but effective tips that people have. I haven't really used power point much and thus my presentation is pretty plain with the odd slide transaction to tie it togather.  Any help is great.

Thanks,

Tips eh? Well first, try and use the same colour background for each slide. Mix the colours up a little. Try to not use sound for serious performances, little class slide-shows should be alright. Otherwise, I hope it works out ok, good luck to ya.

No sounds is definatly a good tip. They don't have that professional touch when there is a "boing" or "beep" when something "flies from bottom right"

Cool,

I did have sounds on but I decided to take them off as they were kinda annoying. All slides have a simple blue background which is faded from the top right hand corner. It's ment for people who are new to the school - year sevens - so there's lots of clip art and little content. Still its just a small assignment and hopefully it'lll be o.k on Monday.

Thanks

Key to powerpoint presentations: Keep it simple.

A lot of people use different slide transitions for every page, plus they have different transitions for each bullets of every page, plus they add pictures all over the place. OK, so you know how to use powerpoint. Big deal. Trying to make the presentation interesting by using effects can easily be overdone. People who watch your presentation actually focus their attention on your effects and not your content so it's really not what you want to do.

Myself, whenever I do presentations, I pick the them (slide template) and I apply a single  transition to all my slides. I never do any bullet transitions because they anoy me to death, and I would rather focus on what I have to say instead of focusing on my mouse. Pictures aren't a bad thing as long as it's used moderatly. For example, if your total presentation is composed of 4 major sections, you may consider adding a picture at the end of each section, as long as the picture relates to your content.

I now need an example of an alternative presentation program. I did a quick search in Google but it didn't turn back that much - I got one the named Delphi but people are saying its a database program.

Any ideas?

thanks,

I don't know of any other presentation software besides PowerPoint. I guess Flash could be considered an alternative presentation method.[/i]

Ack,

Its just for hmk we have to list software packages that a small buisness would use and name two examples. Unfortunatly any alternatives are to Ms Office as opposed to power point ( found this site which makes an interesting read though ). It looks like they own the market. I have found a presentation software for an apple computer so i'll prob use that.

Thanks
